View Full Version : Dam House Poll (Let's Settle This Once And For All)
nuttygirl 01-08-2009, 19:59 Somethig fishy's going on with the dichotomy between opinions about the Dam House. It's got too much of a Marmite-feel on here, and I want to get to the bottom of it.
If you have visited the Dam House in the last year or so, would you please vote on your overall experience at the Dam House, whether it be food, drinks or both. I want to see the real opinions of a wide-range of customers.
No, before you worry, I'm nothing to do with the place, just interested in this little mystery of postings going on...
The Damhouse 04-08-2009, 18:36 I think that just the fact of you posting this might even make it more fishy!
People will think you work for us!
I can honestly say that we don't know anyone who posts on here personally (i.e. we do not sponsor any good feed back)
All we can say is thank you to the people on here who voted in our favour, and if not, please give us a call on some of the detail why we might get negative feed back, being an independent we can easily rectify it without having to call "head office" (unless you count Mrs J upstairs!)
Please note, we have had a few dramatic changes in the last year, so only judge us on recent times as we all always adjusting to guest feedback, and that's why we find this forum a valuable tool to help us "get it right"!
I know by posting we will get some negative feed back (fact and i must say fiction), but it helps us get stronger by us acting upon it.
All the best, and thanks for the poll :)

Hi Ghostrider
yes i did work in catering a few year back not anymore I just feel that after A few year of been open the dam house is still unsure what sort of place it is could be the best place in sheffield with the right staff menu and prices of drinks

All correct. And before anyone says it, the above is not me in a new account I have created :). I would imagine that only a very small percentage of Sheffield residents visit this forum so the fact this place is usually so dead (for which read so unpopular) is down to them, not anything said on here. This pub is in a great location (see I can praise it too!) but after three disappointing visits I can't bring myself to set foot in there again.
Ghostrider 07-08-2009, 13:46 I have to admit, I cant fault the place.
In fact I like it so much that I have joined an agency which deals in my line of work just so that I can work at Dam House....
Good overall in my opinion, prices are what you'd expect but not been for a few months now so will have to give it another try soon.
We went to a wedding there recently and it was lovely.
Dam House are AMAZING =]
At least they are getting free publicity, lets hope its for all the right reasons though.
Its party packages are very over priced however the food is above average and the location makes up for anything it lacks.
I do think the place is a little unsure if it's a bar or a resturant because I've yet to find a place that can be both.

Hello Drumstuck,
we do not wish to embarrass you, but we do realise who you are (you spoke to our bar man Richard about falling off you bike in the park, a unicycle??)
You do walk past nearly every day, and look through the windows, but we have not seen you in here ... well not for the last couple of years since some of our staff have been here.
Why don't you let bygones be bygones and come in, and we apologise if we have done some thing to offend you.
Richard will even give you a free pint on the house if you want to come in and let us know you issues ... we would so much like it if we became your local.
We will give you a wave next time we see you walk by.
All the best Drumstick... and we will probably see you in the morning again!
(p.s. sorry if we got the wrong guy!)
To 'dam' expensive to have wedding/reception there that is for sure!!!!!

Yep. There is a ression on afterall. If the Damhouse were prepared to do a "Credit Crunch" party menu I may consider it, the amount of money made at the bar alone knowing my family would be quite amazing!!
History man 10-08-2009, 13:59 I have only been once for a drink but the place seemed lovely. Unfortunately the wather wasn't good enough to make the most of the great location. Despite that the inside was still very pleasant and enjoyable. I would happily go back, and would like to try the food. :)
I have been lots of times in the past 6 months and I've always had faultless service. Be it for a nice meal for me and my husband, family dinner on a Sunday or just a bit of lunch I've always found it to be fantastic.
I have taken a couple of friends on a few occasions who now go often, can't be that bad. This is from someone who eats out often and knows good food/service.
Only negative thing I can say is it can eb a little pricey but you get what you pay for and it's not like it's extortionate.
Preacher Man 10-08-2009, 14:30 we were sitting around the lake a few sunday afternoons ago and the loud music blaring from it spoilt the tranquillity.
I have been there several times and find the food excellent. The prices are fair and the location is suberb. May be a bit hard to find if you dont know that neck of the woods but still my No 1 eating place and the staff are faultless. Unlike The Showroom! pig ignorant bar staff, worst I have ever encountered. I have never ever been served in turn to the point that I wouldn't even stand at that bar even if the drinks was for free. That lad with the dark brown hair is the most ignorant bar person ever, needs a kick up the, where the sun doesn't shine!
Buttercup88 12-08-2009, 11:42 I love the dam house, I've only ever eaten from the BBQ there (the burger was nice!), but the location is beautiful, a really lovely setting. We even considered our wedding there if we were to get married in the UK. Have spent many lovely sunny days by the Damhouse and can't see how anybody could have a problem with it, people just love to complain!

Nope, never spoken to you, but trawling through my history has given you the above information which is then presented as a conversation with you. Creepy.
I also find it amusing you don't know if you have the wrong guy but am sure whoever it was has not been in there for the last couple of years :hihi:
The fact is I have been in three times, all in the last couple of years and not enjoyed the experience. I am entitled to voice my opinions on here.
My husband took me for my birthday in March this year and we both really enjoyed it, great fast service, food really nice. Would def go back.

what utter rubbish, i visit every time i go back up home, and its always fantastic, infact my last trrip i took several of my family at friends, the staff we very helpfull.
royalowl 04-09-2009, 15:48 The wife and I went last night and we both thought it was great.
We both had the 2 courses for £15 and thought it was really good value, nicely presented and most importantly, really well cooked.
The starter appeared a little on the small side, I had the Melon and ham, my wife the tartlet, but the mains were huge and we both didn't quite manage to finish them.
The wine was perhaps a little on the pricey side, but we had a lovley bottle of Shiraz, and the large bottle of mineral water was on the house (I've paid a fiver for these before).
We will definitely return, and be bringing friends with us when we do.
sheffgrow 04-09-2009, 15:51 so the poll as it stands is erring on the good side
just as i thought!!!!!!!
Hulkster 05-09-2009, 12:15 I have been here twice in the last year.
The first time I took my girlfriend for a romantic meal. We were seated at the window overlooking the lake which was nice. We had the 2 courses for £15 and I ordered a nice bottle of red (Rioja I think, just a good mid priced bottle) which was a bit on the expensive side in comparison to say the italians on Eccy road.
Both starters had soil/mud in the salad (least I know it's fresh hay!). This was replaced with an apology and we were offered a free desert which I thought was reasonable but would not really help recover the romantic evening! The tartlette was amazing I must say, one of the best I have had for a long time!
The mains were very good, I had the duck which was not the best cut and a little tough which I put down to the fact that either it was just a bad bit of duck or it had been rushed to keep us sweet. I did pass this comment on to who I assume is the manager who did not seem to dismiss it.
Desert was very good, nothing like a big dose of chocolate to make you feel good :0) and it did take the taste of soil out of my mouth! ;0)
The second time I went it was for drinks with 2 friends on a lovely summer night. We sat outside overlooking the lake. The drinks were very expensive, £12 for 2 doubles and mixer! For this reason we had 2 drinks each and left.
In summary it's an excellent location and the staff were very friendly which gave a good atmosphere. The drinks are expensive but the food is good value and the decor, lighting and mood in the restaurant is better than most.
It's got all the ingredients (excuse the pun) and I'm sure it will get there but I would be reviewing bar prices and offering a cheap alternative on beer and spirits and/or a 'cheap' night in the week.
Well thats my input. We still make jokes about the soil and my girlfriend (yes she did see me again!) is thinking about taking her mum there for her birthday with some family. Overall I would say it's worth a try and is a nice alternative to the numerous Italians scattered around sheffield.
Thanks
T

After getting a backlash from the managers tongue on here before, I refuse to go on principle now. I won't give my money to someone who talks like that and belittles their customers without even taking into account the cusomer actual views of the place. he just dismissed everything that was said to be a lie....the customer can be a pain but is usually right!
