View Full Version : Kitty Street Party Sunday
It's the rescue kitty street party tomorrow. Who is going?
I could have posted on the 'other' post, but this might just raise awareness that little bit more!
I wonder if it'll be OK to bring the little guys for a look see!

Isn't the street party on Sunday?

LOL. What's doubly embarassing is that I did the flyer.
I've been out of it all week, just ignore me :)
The party is on SUNDAY 11am - 5pm it is posted on the events section at the top of the page
<ahem> ANYway...
Who's going?
I'm going!! I'm bringing my sis in law and her two kids and as many cakes as I can bake tomorrow! Looking forward to it - hopefully the weather forecast is right in that it'll be yukky tomorrow but clear up for Sunday.
Rainrescue 31-07-2009, 22:23 Hope to be there - and so glad someone else gets dates and days mixed up. (I thought it was only me going senile and turning up at wrong times).
I am praying for the sun shining -
What road is it on again?
Oh it's been a nightmare week and I'm glad it's over. I'm even gladderer than the Street Party isn't tomorrow as I wanted a lie in...
It's at: 1100-1700, Terminus Road, behind the flats opposite Wagon and Horses, at the side of Millhouses Park...
Rainrescue 31-07-2009, 22:30 Ok - good
I should be able to then unless we go out for the full day.
I used to go to Abbeydale school and went swimming in the Lido in my growing up periods. That little spot is lovely - so it would be nice to have a reason to go back over that way.
pray for sunshine then
helenasq 31-07-2009, 22:34 We're all going to support Jackie. She does a fabulous job up at CATS. It is such a wonderful uplifting place to visit.Let's hope the sun shines and the money comes flooding in :)
The forecast is ok at the moment - phew. Joey thanks for the offer of cakes cos Karis is coming for that reason!!!! And yes Karis of course your boys can come. There's the lovely Ecclesall Woods nearby and Millhouses Park so every reason to bring doggies and kiddies.
Every day for six weeks my friend Andrea and I have been working on this event. It will never happen again so make the most of this one!!!! Andrea's husband ate his meal last night stood up cos there is no room to sit down in their house which is on Terminus Road.
Jackie's latest disabled kit, Star will be there. Don't worry though when he gets tired from all the pappa-ratsi(!!!) he has a lovely big area in which to sleep and can go into Andrea's house where there is everything he will need. He loves people and attention so I'm sure he'll enjoy the day too.
Bring carrier bags for your winnings - hoopla, tombola, raffle and for your plants, bric-a-brac etc. Lots to buy.
Please please come. x
Joey with her baking, Seadog, perhaps Rainrescue, Helenasq and her girls, of course Karis and his boys, Johnty with the fab Yorkshire hamper she has donated for the raffle and her lovely husband, Little Mermaid has baked but is working on Sunday, Djelibeybi is on a stall and may be taking photos, Aliozzi x 2, Lyndsayx is baking but unable to come.
Buses run every 15 mins from High St. to Waggon and Horses, just across the road from Terminus Road.
Thank you all x
magsie can you give me a call have got to pick up some handbags this morning (sat ) for the stall if you can give me a bell that would be great thanks xx
All the hard work these guys have put in its going to be a Fab day for all furries and non furries alike . See you all there .

I might even set up a stall selling my Uglydolls and such - depending on the weather.
Which could be grim...
I mean: who'd've thought it would be rubbish weather in the very middle of a UK summer?

Hi Karis, get them Uglydolls out there :) Laura thinlks her's is fab :)
If the weather is good, I'll sell them with all proceeds going to the charity.
But I reckon the weather is going to be rubbish...
Maybe it'll burn itself out today!

What is ugly dolls?
Freshly imported from the USA: http://shop.uglydolls.com/
They're the most adorable plush toys. Just ask Helenasq - she bit my hand off to buy one!
But of FAR more interest is the whole 'cake' situation.
What kind of cakes are we talking about, and how much cash should I bring?
I'm tempted to just say: bring 'em all to my house... :P
lyndsayx 01-08-2009, 18:53 Well mine is a weetabix cake, kind of like a fruity malt loaf with weetabix in! And chocolate chunk biscuits, made with dark chocolate as i lost my bun tray, doh.
Lyndsayx, thank you so much for your donation. They look absolutely fabulous and if Karis wasn't relying on having a sugar fix tomorrow then I would buy the lot tonight!!
Luv your place and little Charlie. Lovely to meet so many nice people on the forum. Hope your poor litte ankle gets better soon xx xx
PS - Karis I will buy you a cookie!! xx xx
lyndsayx 01-08-2009, 19:47 Thanks, was nice to meet you too, glad you like them :) you'll have to let me know how they go down tomorrow.

Just been here, great plant stall , got some lovely bargain plants for my garden. Well done to the organizers. A couple of hours left , I think , if anyone is fancying popping along.
Yeah, I have to second that. It had a real 50's street party feel, the sort of thing I've not felt in years.
The next one will be much bigger and better, too!!!
Jackie was lovely and so was STAR. It's a pity Zach had rolled in fox poo or I would have stayed for a cup of tea...
But, well done to everyone who organised and attended!

We'll try and make it to the next one!
Thanks Magsie and everyone who organised it. Came with my sis in law and little nephew and niece. The kids had a great time winning prizes with the hoopla and didn't cheat at all, honest :hihi: Me and my sis in law bought lots of plants, ate cream scones, browsed the stalls and really enjoyed the time we spent there. I bought some eggs and was brave enough to get a duck's egg too although I'm not sure if I'll be able to eat it. <Mind over matter>
There was a really lovely chilled out atmosphere and loads of people there. Well done ladies, and roll on the next one
Will we get to know how much was raised for CATS? Just out of interest/noseyness :)
SpeedDemon 02-08-2009, 15:59 I was there too with 2 of my monsters and my sister. Bought a wonderful singing chicken  some books, and had a cup of tea or 2. It was really quite busy when we were there early on, so hopefully it will have raised loads of money for CATS :)
Was nice to meet some folk from here too, Magsie, Karis, Jellybean & the lady on the plant stall.
helenasq 02-08-2009, 17:12 Had a great afternoon out. Thank you ladies for organising it.Star was gorgeous. Let's hope it raised lots of money :)

rubydazzler 02-08-2009, 18:36 What a lovely experience! And a lovely day too, probably the best summer day we've had for weeks. There can't be many streets you could close for half the day and no-one come out ranting and moaning! I spent up to my limit, there were so many lovely things to buy. Delicious cakes, pretty cushions, some great bags!
And to the girl and hubby on the plant stall, my friend was so pleased with her lambs ears which she'd been wanting for ages and not seen anywhere, you should have seen the delighted smile when I turned up on her doorstep! So many thanks for making her day.
Fabulous day.. I spent up but came away with great stuff, the atmosphere was brilliant, lovely to see you Maggie, Michelle & Marie & see Jax and Star. ( boy did I want to come back with that little guy)
Whoever made those cakes..OMG they were beautiful! I think I have gained a stone just from the cream scones..LOL
Well done to the organisers of a fab event.. and what a day! imagine if it had been yesterday with all that rain.. the big man upstairs let us have dry weather for a good cause.
I did take photos which I think Maggie will put up somewhere of " Star"
So sad I missed you, Helen, but the scones did look fantastic!!!
I know how much the day made now, but I'll leave it for someone else to tell you the good news!
It was good to see everyone, but I believe we can organise one three times better for the next one! :)
In fact, I honestly think street parties should be compulsory - it was so much fun just being and feeling like I was part of a community.

OK folks. So how much do you think was raised?
£200?? £300? £400 nah surely not.
£500 who are you kidding?
£600 stop it!
£700 don't be silly!
Over £800 - yes over £800. What a day!
And thank you thank you thank you
For donating prizes, for baking buns and cakes, for helping on stalls, for coming along,
For being just great Forumers. I am applauding you. Thank you from us all, but particularly from Jackie and Star and all her other needy cats.
No Karis, this is not going to happen ever again. My drive, my garage, my house is like Steptoes. All the stuff left over came to my house. Never ever again. And can you imagine what it would have been like if it had rained? No, never again.
But it was great while it lasted. Yippee. xx xx

It's like my store room before you came and took all that stuff away!
Tee hee
SpeedDemon 03-08-2009, 19:43 That's fantastic Magsie! Was good to meet ya too :)
The 1st prize (Jonty's food hamper) was won by Andrea (who's barmy idea it was to have a street party) - well not Andrea really, her husband Adrian. This was not a fiddle!
Most of the winners have been contacted but we're still waiting for them to reply. Jackie won a bottle of wine but I drank it last night.
As soon as prize winners come back to us, I'll list the winners but up to now, someone on Ecclesall Road has won, someone who goes in the Waggon and Horses, etc. No one has come forward as an actual forumer but may do eventually. Mostly there were just first names on the tickets and mobile nos. All will be revealed. The raffle by the way raised £100 so thanks everyone for their gifts, and the tombola raised £150, again thank you everyone who gave prizes. It was probably the Best Tombola in the World xx
lyndsayx 04-08-2009, 09:53 Well done, what a successful day :)
ps do you still have my cake tin?
djelibeybi 06-08-2009, 02:24 Okay......I confess........I was helping the kids to cheat mercilessly on the Hoopla stall.....and I don't care :hihi:
Some of us adults had a go and even WE struggled, so not wanting to see any frowns on sproggie faces (what with the plethora of amazing items as prizes!), I actively encouraged and helped them to cheat like stink!
Was lovely to meet fellow Forummers and have some fantastic chats!
Everyone involved and those who came along to show their support (including people who spotted the posters in Millhouses Park and came to have a nosey!) are all wonderful human beings, and your Karmic rewards are gonna be HUGE!
xxx
We had a lovely time, the cream scones were to die for :)
My sister in law felt very honoured to be allowed to cuddle Star for a few minutes. I think everyone there fell in love with him.
Congratulations to all involved for raising such a huge sum of money :)
spottie2101 06-08-2009, 16:29 I cannot believe it my friend who i brought along won two prizes in the raffle and won on the tombola as well. How unlucky must i be lol
SpeedDemon 06-08-2009, 20:37 djelibeybi, it's only just clicked that was you on the hoopla! I was the one with the very awkward little girl who said no to every prize, and we eventually got the little toy cat for the baby instead! lol

:hihi: Guilty as charged!
I'm just really glad I could help put smiles on so many kids' faces that day!
