I'm just wondering if many people on here are like me, and not originally from Sheffield? I come from Grantham in Lincolnshire, moved here in1989 for a job and liked it so much I never left. Now I have a partner, a good job and a life here and can't imagine living anywhere else. So, are there any other imports?

I was originally born in Liverpool, but moved around all over the place whilst my Dad was climbing his way up the corporate ladder, eventually ending up in commuterland just north of London.

I came to study at Sheffield University, liked the place and never left.

moved about, Scotland, Derby now Lincs, looking to move back to Sheff though.
I still visit as often as i can to see friends and for the thriving live music scene.
It always feels like home to me although I'm not strictly native.

I'm originally from Lancaster though I have spent most of my life in Japan as my parents worked out there whilst I was growing up. When they returned to the UK my parents moved to outside Manchester and I came to study at Sheffield University. I plan to move back to the Fylde coast with my partner (who I met in Sheffield) within the next 2-3 years.

Lower Erewash valley lad myself - just below DH Lawrence country on the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire border. Lived in Sandiacre, on the Derbyshire side until I was 18, and then we moved across the border to Stapleford - where my elderly parents still live.

Apart from 2 years living Teesside, I've only ever lived in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire before settling in Sheffield about 16 years ago now.

Born in Germany, lived all over the place, came to Sheffield initially to take up a job offer, spent a few years away but came back in 1992 but kind of wish I had gone for somewhere near Leeds back when I had the chance.

I was born in Derbyshire but my Dad's in the RAF so we've lived all over the place. The rest of my family is in Preston so that's always been my unofficial home.

Moved to Sheffield in 2003 with work and quite happy here for now.

I'm from sunny Devon, north coast. Was a great place to grow up and is still nice to visit but the small town mentality does my nut in if I spend too long there now.

My family are originally from these parts so I came to study at Hallam in 98 to embrace my northern roots.

I before any one cracks any funnies about rice pudding or custard,

Yes, I know how they make it so creamy...

Now split up with girlfriend and selling house and looking to move back to Sheffield in a house share!

Back in November i took my partner down South as i was visiting my family & friends... in the evening the 2 of us went out on the town... i couldnt believe what i experienced i wanted to get home asap... I have never felt so uncomfortable down South ever! I felt as if i was being eyed up and down and starred at it was awful... nothing at all like going out in Sheffield...

Thank you friendly Northern people

born in dunfermline, fife, lived in rosyth and auchtermuchty (honestly, this is a real place- home of the proclaimers, dont you know!) till 8, then lived in shildon, county durham till returning up north to edinburgh at the age of 19 for 4 years (although technically spent nearly a year of this in sunny stevenage!) before moving to sunny sheffield nearly 2 years ago. this has lead to one of the wierdest accents known to man (helped by lots of visits to scouse/ geordie/ london branches of the family)!!!

Proud of it. I'm a hillsborough bloke though I was born in Langsett a long long time ago. Anyone remember all the terraced houses? Ooooo memory lane. I was actually born close to the shop I now run. Moved to Stocksbridge for a while but circled straight back home.
