I'm a post-grad journalism student at Sheffield Uni, and I'm writing my dissertation about MMORPGs and the people that play them. Specifically, I'm looking at WoW and Second Life.
It has been well-reported (perhaps overly so) the number of hours that some spend in these virtual worlds, but I'd like to explore exactly why people are prepared to give so much of themselves to these games. What do you get in return? Does it enrich your life or do you wish you could stop playing?
Although I'm wanting to look at both sides of the coin, I'm particularly keen to hear from people that want to talk about their positive experiences.
I've gone onto both games, so have a limited knowledge of them, but as they can both be a little overwhelming to a newcomer, would welcome the chance to chat 'out' of game!
If you could help me out, it would be much appreciated.
