Its been really poor for a few months to be fair every time you turn on it's exactley the same thing.
I asked for my Betting megathread to be stickied yesterday and i got turned down.

i was going to ask the other day if it was getting stickied again, was one of the better threads that never had any arguments on, maybe we need to get a petition going, i bet most posters on here want it up there lol

I didnt really get 1 to be honest, it's not just that though when i was doing the scores Tuesday night i got some idiot on it while im trying mi best to convey the score for us all.
And the United one aswell just for the record.
What's the point in trying when all you do is get it thrown back in your face.

to be honest , i feel the footie section has improved no end recently ,and we have a good buch of posters on here now .

i also think the mods do a great job on sheffield football threads ,and keep this section under control . their hard work is welcomed .

yes, that did annoy me. theres a time for banter but then some just come on for an argument. thats why i dont really like starting threads, it just ends up being an owls v blades contest

You hit the nail on the head there Corky The Idiots It doesn't matter what the thread is someone spoils it for the rest of us It isn't just wednesday posters we have them as well

In the last few days we've had pigs porkers oinkers togay blacklock swine ect: why don't they grow up and stop spoiling it for everyone

MR BENN
30-07-2009, 21:45
i do feel if there were more mods on here ,then threads wouldny have the chance to be ruined . obviously with only having a couple of mods ,they cant be here a lot of the time ,so threads can be ruined and arguements develop ,without a mod being here to nip it in the bud .

i would definatly be in favour of more mods on the footie section ,as its obviously the emotionally charged section on SF.
Also it would help clamp down on the fake accounts set up by people who are banned

I'm not sure about this, to me this section of the forum is a great source of amusement and I'd miss it if it wasn't here.

I love coming in each day from work and checking how many times posters who have me on ignore make reference to my posts during the day. To date the record is twelve, and I'm dreading the day they actually do decide to ignore me.

In relation to the arguing I think there's a simple solution and that is a red flag to indicate the thread will discuss areas Blades don't like and a Blue flag for those that will upset Owls. This way they don't have to look at it.

I would welcome some of the banned posters back, I've not known this Alex that people mention and if BB could concentrate on tales of Jeff King kicking Sabela all over the place, instead of who he wants to kick all over then I see no reason why he shouldn't be allowed back.

Anyway keep persevering, most of us appreciate your efforts!

BTW you aren't going to play footie on Skeggy beach with the banned one are you?

Well I suppose that it would be far better than having them posting under aliases, a certain banned one has had more user names than our lass has had pairs of shoes. I am very wary when a new blades poster appears and immediately goes on the attack, and if two appear together its odds on that two of the banned blades have been reborn.

It's just a pity that they are totally incapable of behaving themselves, circa 50 years old and they act like kids.

Looking at it from the 'other side' as a Blade I get absolutely sick and tired that every day it seems threads are posted on the same subject ie: United's tickets Crowds ect

And I can understand some of you being sick of the 'Wednesday are skint' digs

Maybe they're on holiday from the forum during the close season (not surprising really, it gets pretty petty on here at times with no matches to talk about!).

AS for your betting posts, i'm sure they'll keep getting pushed upto the top regardless of a sticky :)

Dreading next Friday already, with everything that's happened with the Playoff final and this summer's activity, just hoping we'll not suffer a hangover and get walloped - although Middlesbrough are probably feeling the same after relegation...!

I'm starting to worry about your welfare lad as there isn't a thread on the first two pages about your tickets or crowds, other than one started by a Blade wanting to clarify something.

I know you don't see my posts, but I do hope one of your mates on here can send you a PM to let you know that your concerns are unfounded.

Come on no-one wants to see you make yourself ill over this, the threads you didn't like are gone now and from my perspective they'll only be mentioned again when a Blade makes references to their bigger, or our smaller attendances.

As I've said before, it gets a little boring when it's the same old arguments over and over again.

Might get a bit more into it come the start of the season

Corky, as I said to you fella, just update your tips thread as and when. Others can still post on it too, but it doesn't warrant being 'stickied' really. Oh, and that horse I mentioned for Bangor on Friday afternoon didn't run, but is still engaged at Newton Abbot .....

I'd still rather see it go right-handed though ..... Orchard King, seeing as you all asked ;) ..... not a good thing, but seemingly would like to run on a right-handed track like Market Rasen or Huntingdon .....

Anyway, back on topic to everyone, believe me, as mods we get very tired of having to deal with the same people returning under aliases, but if we didn't have to take action, we wouldn't, would we? Would you rather that we let people abuse everyone in the way which has happened in recent months "because they'll only come back anyway", or take action?

I moderate very rarely in this bit, mainly because as a fan my view is slightly clouded, but this is the area which traditionally has the most lax moderation on the whole site. I personally miss a lot of old regulars, some who may well have been banned included, but when push comes to shove, if you hack people off enough, then you'll hack the mods and admin off, and then you can't post.

Extract urine as much as you like, but don't be abusive, and if you get a slap, don't bleat, and don't do what we didn't like again. There are loads of other boards where you can be horrible to people if that's your wont.

Personally, I used to love the light hearted urine taking on here. The irony is that some posters people appear to miss are the ones who (seemingly) come back with the pure intention of causing grief, and get reported by the people who miss them.

This forum is what you, we, I suppose, the users, make it. Keep the crap away, and maybe some old posters will return more often. That's my speech anyway, and now I shall return to the fridge ......

Perhaps if everyone attempted to post something about Sheffield football instead of inane one liners, insulting other posters it would be an improvement.

Folk who have never met their target poster make stupid assumptions about them, such as:

You don't go to matches, you haven't got a season ticket, etc; etc.

How the **** do they know how other people run their lives, why don't they just get on with their own? A certain banned one used to trawl (and still probably does) the forum for any of my posts, and then, very poorly, attempt to rubbish them. He very rarely posted anything about the actual game of football, just the peripherals such as pre match boozing, getting thrown out of his home ground, being charged for assult, his hatred for anything Wednesday, etc; etc.

Whilst we have posters openly posting their wish for the mods to ban folk, just because they have decided that they don't like them, does nothing for this forum. Well, admin and the mods run it, rather them than me.

we all love the banter and micky taking ,but some seem to think its ok to get personal -which is why people get banned .

Bragging about fighting ,drunken assults, being evicted from grounds has no place on a family forum

and i have to agree ,lately there have been an alarming number of posts from certain posters ,openly callling for other posters to be banned ,just because they have different football views, which again is not welcome .

As Happyhippy has pointed out ,the mods dont wish to spend all their time removing posts and fake users, they do it so the rest of us have a great forum to post on .

Anyway -lets keep the banter going ,but lose in the insults

I'm not without sin in this, as I have fallen for the three card trick on several occasions by counter posting with 'the banned', but it's a no brainer really. When 'the banned' come back, as they will, simply ignore them, even such accomplished thread spoilers as ** and **** can't ruin a thread whilst they are being ignored.

You stated in a previous thread that you can spot the duplicate posters, so when you do just freeze them out, you know that it makes sense. ;)

If you hit the report button like you hit the post button, god only knows what admin think. I've used it twice in over three years, but I will not use it again because admin do not back you up when you have a clear case. I do not have an 'ignore' list as I quite like knowing what's going on.

We are completely different folk, vive la difference.

As an outsider looking in, I do mostly enjoying reading posts from the teams from both ends of the city. However i struggle to find where the banter ends, and personel insults start. I do where required post on the forum. Though would never start a thread in the footie section, for those reasons.

I have a footie team allegance in the city, though will keep silent on that one.

For the sake of all armchair readers, stick to topic , and I am sure both posters and readers will return.

I enjoy the forum and the football threads, I know from other sites that I go on that users come and go, it's not a case of it going downhill but people get to the point where they have seen it all before, have found other interests, or just get bored.

The ignore lists amuse me, I really can't fathom how people can get so upset over what are really throwaway comments most of the time, not only that but it would be my luck to ignore someone and not find that they threaten to disembowel me and just happen to live a few doors away.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Cheers CB, totally agree with you (first time for everything ;)).

This did used to be my favourite site for a long time and I always had fun locking swords with some of the decent Blunts on here but over the past year it has gone seriously down hill. Now i'm not gonna point the finger at anyone because I feel its been a general thing and that the general mentally of the conversations on here has dropped significantly.

Hopefully, with the start of the season, it may pick up. I hope so. I personally don't have the same enthusiasm for things on here now but lets all try and have some good chats with some clever banter and take it from there.

As the mods point out on a regular basis people are responsible for their own posting -no one can post for you ,so if anyone recieves a ban ,its due to their own posting .

What do you mean by goading people, surely the forum is a place to offer advice or an opinion, and provided that these are submitted in a non-insultng manner then what is the problem.

In my humble opinion the only problem this forum has is its ambiguity in what is, and isn't acceptable. We can all point to threads, posts and signatures that have been removed, whilst similar ones are allowed to stay on.

Until we give users clearer guidelines then I'm afraid these problems will continue.

It's not rocket science is it? Certain posters (now mostly banned) are no more than trolls. They aim their sights on another poster and dissagree with everything that they post. Their aim is to get said poster to lose their temper, so start off with veiled insults and keep on turning up the volume until insults are returned and the thread is closed.

It's impossible to police 100% fairly, IMHO you keep to your own level of decency, if you're standards cut the mustard then you stay, if they don't then you go. Liars, cheats and bullies don't have any standards so don't know where or when to stop. That's why they are no longer with us, they blame others for their respective banns, but only have themselves to blame.

This is exactly what ruins this part of the forum at times. People get too uptight and look into things too much. It is just a football forum!

There's nothing wrong with debate, banter etc. If someone writes something you don't like or you presume they're doing it to wind you up - ignore it.
The more you respond the more petty arguments start and that is what they are, the basis of most the arguments on here are utterly childish.
