If you mean the song they play over the PA system when they score, then the song is called Tom Hark by the Piranhas, which was in the charts summer 1980. Ironically this catchy tune was adopted by the Sheffield Wednesday fans at the time, and is still a popular tune to this day at many football grounds up and down the country.
NOTE: the original version was done by a band called Elias and his Zigzag Jive Flutes and charted in 1958.
Interesting Eh........................hope it helps!

Tom Hark by The Piranhas.

I had it up for free download at the www.bhuna.net site

If you still want the mp3, let me know.

The scum always play the theme from the 80's TV series The Proffesionals when they score. God knows why. Probably to remind the swine that they are supposed to celebrate. At Hillsborough you see, we have a crowd with more than a single brain cell each... The Piranahs song? Mate you've never been to a game in your life... Annies' Song? The Pigs sing that when they forget about the Boxing Day Massacre!

BlueOwl said The Piranahs song? Mate you've never been to a game in your life... Annies' Song?

As a Wednesday fan for 30 years (15 as a season ticket holder) I can assure you I have probably been to more games in my life than you. I think you misunderstood, the question posted by dkc wascould anyone tell me what song they played when the blades scored against liverpool......its killing me trying to think of the title...
Well I was watching United v Liverpool on TV and it sounded very much like they played Tom Hark by the Piranhas to me.

Wednesday fans version circa 1980 after promotion to Division 2

We're the Wednesday
How do you do
Nice to be back in Division Two
We've been been away for far too long
Now we are back to sing this song
da da .......................................

You might not be old enough to remember that BlueOwl

Now now guys, who cares all I know is we will be singing all the way to The Millenium Stadium after 2moro night.

Good result on friday eh Blueowl !!!!!

Apparently the Blades DJ has just released the Piranhas song as a CD.

United fans' new goal celebration song, Tom Harks by the Piranhas,
has proved to be so popular that the club has decided to release a re-mixed version on CD for supporters to buy.
Gary Sinclair, Sheffield United's Stadium Announcer, explains: "The
story really begins with our Worthington Cup run and in particular
the Leeds match. When the Blades scored twice in the last four
minutes I belted out the song each time we scored in celebration of
both goals.

As well as the CD, fans will also be able to purchase red and white
striped inflatable saxophones to help them celebrate to the music
when the Blades score in matches to come.

from reading this forum i've gathered that sheffield wednesday fans call sheffield united fans scum but whats insults do united fans call wednesday fans??

the only reason they are called wednesday though is because all the shps had a half day on wednesdays to play sports but was that a good reason to call a club it or couldn't they think of sheffield united ??

Michael_W

PIGS is the popular insult that both sets of fans call each other, I am not sure about the origins of that but I am led to believe that it was a reference to the red and white stripes (like bacon) worn by Sheffield United. Anyone know any different ?

Last time I went to Hilsborough when they played Leicester City in the Worthington Cup, the Owls made absolutely NO noise. Our fans managed to drown out what little chanting there was.

"Shall we sing, shall we sing, shall we sing a song for you?....."

gerald8_kop
27-01-2003, 17:58
there was about 8000 fans there though! at the opposite end to the away fans!

what was portsmouth singing (to the 300) united fans?

"1-0, and you still dont sing...."

:D

I stay at the top of Bramall Lane and I can hear the chanting.

Bit o' banter on here I see so I thought I'd join in...
Outsung by Leicester !!!
Strange that one but I'll take your word for it, must have been an off night. I don't go to Hillsborough much these day's, but I do know that over the years the Owls fans have given some of the most vocal support that any club could wish for not just at Hillsborough but also on their travels, where they are always well supported and have outsung many home fans including the likes of Liverpool, Man Utd etc....oh and Leicester at that little old Filbert Street place !
If I'm not mistaken the Owls fans won a Daily Star award for being the best supporters a few years ago !

Sidla

Leicester now play at the Walker's Stadium BTW. Filbert Street will soon be home to a pile of rubble.

Michael_W
28-01-2003, 20:07
I know but I can't vouch for Wednesday outsinging the Leicester fans there as I have not been. Like many of the clubs who have built new stadiums Leicester have had a considerable upturn in attendances. Derby, Sunderland and Southampton to name a few more. Visited Filbert Street to see the Owls about 4 times in the 1980s. I remember one occasion I reached the exit without my feet touching the ground at the end of the match, such was the pressure of the crowd leaving the stadium. As I was being carried out by the crowd I met a barrier straight on at the exit steps, don't know where I got the strength from but I managed to push back and twist before I got my wedding tackle crushed and escaped with nothing worse than a badly crumpled programme !

I'm an Ipswich Town fan born and bred in Sheffield???????? I went to the blades v Town cup match last saturday, and I have to say that when united scored it was like being at the arena watching the ice hockey. All they were missing were the oversize foam fingers. Good game though. Good luck next round Blades. :)

I've worked for an international co based in Sheffield and Swedish and German footie fans who've been to the Lane and Hillsboro have told me that the Lane has the better atmosphere, all in all.
Plus the 'Chip Buttie' song (gawd bless 'n RIP Jon Denver) must be one of the best songs ever to be sung by a 4,000 strong kop choir.
Also 'Are you wednesday in disguise?' and 'Worst support we've ever seen!' against fuming Leeds fans in the cup, or 'Can we play you every week?' vs Weds in the 3-1er.
Comic classics!

Michael_W
04-02-2003, 12:54
The Swedish and German footie fans must have gone to the Lane for the big cup games because the atmosphere at Bramall Lane is not that good on a normal matchday and is reputedly dire when United are not playing well. Yes on the odd occasions United get a decent attendance the atmosphere is OK but that can be said of Wednesday too, however the consistency of both vocal and numerical support at Bramall Lane is questionable??????????????

It was a draw but to be fair we were lucky because of an own goal by Paul McLaren.

BTW, 11:30 on a Sunday morning is a ridiculous time for a football match, or is it just me?

Yes it is a bit early, will the players be wide awake? Obviously the reasoning is to stop people turning up to the match drunk.

Yes JR, got my predictions wrong, and I must admit United deserved the win. 'Good Luck' in the Semi Final, hope you avoid Arsenal/Chelsea in the draw and get one of them in the Final.
BTW losing in the final sucks as much as losing the semi, I can vouch for that !

Go easy on the little piggy Michael, it must be hard trying to type with those trotters of his.
Besides which, I love how completely random his comments are.
Real Madrid play in Spain! WTF is that all about?
He must have gone to the Neil Warnock school of irrelevant ranting.

Ok so I clicked on the wrong reply, 1st time user surely allowed on Faux Pas. My response was to an item on page 1 from a Wednesdayite who referred to the BDM, my arguement is that it is all they can throw in your face.

The ref to Real Madrid, perhaps I should make myself a bit clearer to hear S6 piggies talk you would think that is who they played like. Get real they are a 2nd division side that enjoyed a bit of good fortune & are now back in their rightful division.

Oh & if you did wonder been a Blade for last 45 years, and proud so please do not dis a Blade.

If you are a true Blade I will buy you a pint in the Premier next year.

Welcome to the forum Blademan1958, it seems you posted in response to BlueOwl, well he was another who just came on and posted childishly and then never came back by the looks of things.
You said Oh & if you did wonder been a Blade for last 45 years, and proud so please do not dis a Blade.
Well if you posted more sensibly and didn't 'dis' yourself you would get a better response !!
