this is how a manager should communicate with fans!
quote from brian laws after tudders signs new 4 yr deal--
"He is a key player at this club and neither myself nor the chairman are interested in selling players who are crucial to our development. This also sends out the message that Sheffield Wednesday is a club moving in the right direction and one that is not looking to sell its best players."

another Blade trying to dum down the importance of derby days just because you've lost loads recently, we didnt have a Play-Off Final last season mate true but then again we didnt lose one either but anyway back on topic how does it feel to have your best players sold at the first hint of interest? not good? well unlucky ... im glad my team does whatever it can to keep it best players not sell them to make a quick buck!

However, your comment tends to lower itself when you resort back to the fact that you beat us twice in one season when it took over 95 years to do it.

If he was that good an established premier team would be interested in him, like Spurs were for our two lads. Going to the premiership with Burnley for just one season, I cant see why he would want to do that

NEKRO138
30-07-2009, 12:06
I'm not arguing that he is a better player than Naughton but I think he was just as important to us as Naughton was to you last season.

Nor do I think he was player of the year, but there must be something in it.

scottf
30-07-2009, 12:09
Oh i agree we would have both been in worse league positions without them both but its far easier to replace a right back than a striker.

I think he is a good player yes- and law said it himself when he says its crucial to your development- it is crucial because without him i think you will struggle to score goals this year, you guys need to plan yourself in mid-table for another season or 2 to get the finances under control- whereas i don't think we will be severely weakened by loosing naughton.

Yeah, everything you said there's pretty much right. Don't agree with the mid table thing though, I want to see us really pushing this year. If we fall short, so be it, it won't do us any harm.

One of the best players outside the Premiership doesn't entice a bid of only £1.5 Million Quid.
There are many, many more better players than him but, hes wednesdays best player and so obviously you lot are going to big him up as we do with our players

Don't like getting into debate over this, but I doubt there's been that many derby's in that 95 years, as we seem to have been in different leagues for the majority of that 95 years.

It's hard to say best, but what I would say is he is one of the most consistent players. With Tuday, he isn't amazing at one thing, but he is good at everything -heading, holding ball up, shooting, passing etc.

As for being the best no he isn't.
Whoever said it earlier he is pivotal to Wednesday there is no doubt.
But what does Laws mean by pivotal? avoiding relegation well you wont do that but all the hype saying you will do this and you will do that is laughable.

They can keep their best players or player as the case maybe true it may cost them abit in long run (4 years abit long I think)

At the end of the day they start the season with their best player. Not bad since they had to give him a lifetime supply of pork sarnies to get him to stay.

Anyone seen the Tudgay interview on Wednesay Player on the OS?

He said he signed after talks with Strafford and Laws and the takeover has convinced him to stay. He thinks and wants to reach the Premiership with Wednesday.

Tudgay mentioning a takeover is interesting. Don't know what to make of it. Is investment imminent possibly?

Strafford is more talented than we thought - didn't realise he was a hypnotist too - he must be, if he's managed to convince Tudgay he'll be in the Premiership with Wednesday!

Still fair play to Tudgay, he's realised he's the big fish in a small pond at S6, but would just be a squad player challenging in the PL at Burnley, and probably realises he's reached his level in the Championship. Nothing wrong with that, at least he won't be embarrassed in the step up in class at Burnley or any other PL club. If he really thought he was good enough, he would've gone to the PL to test himself against the best players, like Brunt has.

A comment earlier said he was Players Player of the Year - they did just mean at S6? The Player of the year award he won otherwise was the meaningless PFA fans award, rigged by keyboard warriors...

As a Owl you must have heard "the takeover" many times. Fair play Tudgay has ensured a big pay day for himself in the event of a sale . Weds have for now kept and increased the value of the clubs most valuable player.

"IF" the lastest rumour of a takeover fails he has the ideal get out clause, with terms now both in the clubs and players interest, in the event of a later bid for the player.

First of all i'll say i don't post much on here but i do look in now and again. Like most of the football forums i find the place void of any humour (except when Bladebloke used to post). The majority of posters are stuck up their own ****s, posting crap they've read on other sites or picked up from the media, but hey that's just me, everybody to their own eh!
What i do know about though is terrace culture and that includes the songs sung on the terraces.
I'd say that a good 90% of football songs are borrowed, stolen, changed ect.
It's just the way things are and it go's back to mid-60s when it all strated.

'No pig fans in town' is a Glasgow Rangers song 'borrowed' by the Blades.
It starts "No no pope of Rome, no chapel to sadden my eye" the last line is "Every day is the 4th of july"
The last line of the Blade version is "Every year is 1889" not "AND the year is 1889"
The song started in the late 70s-early 80s but over the years, i don't know why, the last line, and it's only one word got changed.

Another example, that really p****s me off is the Blades song (again borrowed, this time from Leicester City).
"We travel far and wide London to Merseyside" most Blades sing,
"We travel far and wide we've been to Merseyside" now Merseyside is'nt exactly far and wide is it?
Thats just two examples, now you Wednesdayites might be creaming yer sens about Blades borrowing songs but we've NEVER borrowed any from you lot, unlike your good selfs. It beggers belief now you can sing
"We will fight forever more because of Boxing Day" and claim it as your own.

We sign a striker for £3m and we're "a club in turmoil" (sp)....... they manage to renew a contract and they're "A club moving forward".

We release plans to enhance our already excellent facilities at Bramall Lane, they think "O dear, we'd best do something here or our world cup bit will be embarrasing", so they release plans to put some solar panels on a roof, a rainwater tank, and the worlds biggest classroom in one of their stands?

Don't you just love (no, not love, Hate) Wednesday fans.

We sign a striker for £3m and we're "a club in turmoil" (sp)....... they manage to renew a contract and they're "A club moving forward".

We release plans to enhance our already excellent facilities at Bramall Lane, they think "O dear, we'd best do something here or our world cup bit will be embarrasing", so they release plans to put some solar panels on a roof, a rainwater tank, and the worlds biggest classroom in one of their stands?

well, that's just what a world cup stadium needs - solar panels and a big classroom!

apparently you do, most of the other blades fans who have commented have been civil and added excellent input in the threads. theres no need to feel bitter my friend no doubt mr mccabe or mr blackwell will pull a rabbit out of the hat for you lot in the next few days

When United announced their ground plans, I'm pretty sure there was much bitterness from those at S6.

there was no bitterness, just questioned what the point would be as it was mostly to upgrade it to a 44k seater stadium just to get a couple of world cup matches. the wednesday plans dont include any increase to capacity in these first set of plans until they decide they want to fill some corners in, even then it would just ba a couple of thousand extra

Strafford likes the sound of his own voice and has got more stories that Walt Disney and you lot keep falling for his shtick hook, line and sinker :D

Hopefully if you do get an injection of monies the 1st thing they do is hire some proper painters and decorators .....:hihi:

Yeh lets stick to recent memory ! 6 points taken from United care to discuss previous 3 seasons ? Lost in the play off final again selling your best players again .................. oh and just to cheer you up we have no money !
Now Ched Evans expenditure etc ?

You asked when was the last time we spent 3 million plus on a player. I answered. Stop trying to squirm out by deflecting the question now.

Why would there be anything in recent history when you know very well the financial situation at Hillsborough aint the best it's been in a long time.

Could be the best £3 Million we ever spent who knows.
And was it £3 Million ? I heard it was less than that with monies paid to Man City for goals scored, matches played etc etc

Strafford getting to me, Yes hes getting right up my nose.
Cant stand people who are all talk but really saying nothing.

So If he is worth 3 million and possibly the best money you ever spent can you now tell me his track record that justifies Blackie spending that sort of sum ....... yes we have fans painting at Hilsbro thats because we have no money ............ why is Strafford all talk what has he said that he hasnt delivered ? Actually sheff66 was going on about our summer sales which is how all this started...How can anyone who doesnt have a pot to p*ss in have a go about the comings and goings at Bramall Lane ?
Ever sold anything for mega millions and then had someone give you half of it back for a year ? Got to be the best bit of business ever done in football, I actually think we will be a stronger team this season than last.
I like how you lot keep coming back with the "you know we haven't got money" bit all the time yet you continue to all bang on about how big a club you are :hihi:

Ive never said we are a big club show me where i said that ! Yes your right about Di Canio et al however thats what you get for over spending and trying to punch above your weight which brings me nicely back to your mob . I do actually have a pot to **** in .. in fact several pots but that gives me as much right to comment on your clubs transfer dealings as it gives you to comment on our fans painting . Anyway you say you are stronger this year than last so please expand ... Let me start you off .. start of last year forward line was James Beattie Danny Webber Henderson Stead with players like Halford in midfield .............. what were your thoughts on your Chairmans previous comments as you are so outraged with the insincerity of Mr Strafford ?

sheff66----By the time we are done buying a selling and if Lita comes I think we will be a better team than last season.
I honestly think when Naysmith gets back playing, with him, Killa, Morgs and Walker on the back line surely its one of the strongest back 4's in the divison.
We have a half decent midfield and with Evans and Lita/Hendo/Ward upfront we will be reight ....My opinion and i might be wrong but i like the way things are shaping up at BDTBL

correct me if i am wrong but you were the only club in for him, he played a friendly for you and was watched by the Blades in that friendly.

my point is wolves will of offered more money aswell, just as you did with france. a player is likely to choose the money over a club, especially if they are in the same league and the other person was right that you dont need to spend money to get quality

huge amounts of money or any money regardless of who he plays for old boy!!

No need for bitterness.

I am exactly excited about the plans. The more I read the more I like.

If we get the World Cup, the Park is going to be used as a fan zone and will be the 'entrance' to the stadium. There'll be 5-a-side, big screens showing highlights and live matches etc.

If these plans go ahead, I think there's no doubt that the World Cup will be coming to Hillsborough again.

I could by a nice Porsche if I wanted to, only that in the long run I couldn't afford the running costs. Most football clubs could sign "luxury" players, most couldn't afford them long term. (see SWFC debt)

It is simple really it is what we sing in the city centre on derby day when we cant see any of you around.
As for facts and figures Armchair you said and i quote " Uniteds attendances will drop off from this season and within 10 years there wont be one left "
So then where is the empirical evidence to back this up?

Defo a reason for that. I wore my Shirt and scarf to the lane a few seasons back and the amount of threats I got was insane, having said that it was usually some chav stood behind a Copper. I'm all for banter and rivalry, but its fans who take it too far which ruins derby day. I had to avoid the underpasses last season, just not worth the hassle.

One of the best outside the premiership-in your dreams. we lost the last two. They are your cup finals. Dont forget a season is 46 matches not 2

yep thats true, we are both in the championship this season...see who has the edge this time.....those sweet six points we took off you were a highlight. :hihi:
