Try turning the flash off, and taking a longer exposure. It'll look more natural.

It looks like the flash fired. and the Exif data from your photo says it did:

Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/60 second ===> 0.01667 second
Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 32/10 ===> ƒ/3.2
Flash = Flash fired, auto mode, red-eye reduction mode

I bow to your superior knowledge.I will have another go the next time I see them and make sure the flash is off.
