View Full Version : Chatsworth Triangle Walk Sunday 2nd August 2009
Here's a walk we did almost exactly a year ago in an area that is well known to anyone who walks regularly with the Group. It's an 8 mile walk through parts of the Chatsworth estate, and other beauty spots in the area, and starts and finishes at Baslow. The walk passes 3 famous monuments along the way, Nelsons monument, Wellingtons monument and the Hunting Tower. This is the reason the walk is called The Chatsworth Triangle.
There will be a pub stop half way if anyone fancies it, and the opportunity for a refreshments/toilet stop at Chatsworth House about a mile from the end of the walk as well. The walk follows tracks and well-used paths which are rough in parts, and there are several steady climbs, some boggy ground and a total of 6 stiles along the way.
Can I just ask, that in line with future policy, can people make sure they are wearing appropriate clothing and suitable footwear for this type of walk, and also that they bring a packed lunch and a drink.
The walk will start at 10.30 at the public car park in Baslow opposite Il Lupo on the main Sheffield to Bakewell road. For people arriving by car you can usually park on the road which goes up the side of Il Lupo, which saves you having to pay at the public car park. For public transport users the 218 bus leaves Pond Street at 9.30 arriving at Baslow at 10.05. Return times are 14.40 and 15.40.
Hopefully we'll get a good turnout for this one, which I think is an ideal walk for anybody thinking of joining us for the first time, and will be a nice one for the regulars to try too.
Me and Mrs DJ will be on this one.
3 Spaces available if anyone needs a lift, we are in Chapeltown send me a pm or post here.

If it looks like it may be a clear day tomorrow, I may decide to brave the mush and the mud. I'll post in the morning if I am coming and I will be driving.

We will be leaving around 9.15 am in the morning with a pick up in chapeltown, the ecclesfield then heading along penistone road into town, there is a place left in the car, however i wont be online in the morning, if you are on my route and need a lift then either call or text my number below in my signature.
Have a good one people.
Standimg up at work- in heels- for the better part of 12 has taken more of a toll than expected.
It was great to get back into the swing ;) of things after not being out walking for the past 6 weeks or so. My legs and feet are feeling it though, just shows how out of practice I am.
Lovely walk with some great views and as usual a great bunch of people. The joint "leading / facilitating" seemed to work and we didn't get majorly lost.
Had a good laugh as well today (although much of the laughs seemed to be at my expense)
Photos won't be online until tomorrow due to me being kidnapped by Rivelin6 again :D
Many thanks to Poppypopstar for the lift
This walk was one of the best yet, nice to venture into some rough terrain was great.
Some stunning view from the hills.
The weather held out,had some great laughs on the way, thanks Bambigirl :hihi:.
( I only just fitted through that style, you all know what i mean)
The usual lovely people, that makes these walks worthwhile.
Nice well deserved pub stop, even though it was a little expensive.
A great shame to change the group format,as it just keeps getting better with age, just like me :hihi::hihi:
Well you all have a fantasic time in France, see you all soon
mamasquirrel 02-08-2009, 17:30 Fabulous walk - many thanks for organising this :D
Great to see everyone - have a fab time in France (looking forward to seeing the pics!) xxx
billysmum 02-08-2009, 17:36 A fantastic walk was had by all I think today. It made a nice change to have some sunshine for once.
The pub was very expensive but at least they didn't say anything about us eating our own "snap".
As for poppypopstar not getting through that style, all I can I say is ....you have one lucky wife :D
Have to say for me this was the best one yet, loved it, thanks to Mr n Mrs Hemlock for providing Tea at the end.
Oh and thanks for the vote :)
Village Owl 02-08-2009, 17:54 :wow:Fantastic walk one of the best yet, I think!!!
Such variety of superb views over the valley and Chatsworth House and grounds, varied terrain, some of it a bit more challenging than normal.
Such a great group of people to walk with, just gets better every week. I don't think I've laughed so much on a walk for ages, so thanks Bambigirl and Eclair.
Enjoyed the pub stop, even if like Poppypopstar says it was a bit expensive!!! Oh and thanks for helping out with the lift situation Pops.:)
Nice to see David walking with us again (we really must get you a forum name mate), also it was great to see Mamasquirrel after what seems like ages.
Thanks also to Mr and Mrs Hemlock for the refreshments back at their camper van, much appreciated. Thanks also to my fellow walk co-ordinators I think the new system seemed to work fine.
To those of you going to France, have a fab time :banana:and we'll see you when you get back. The rest of us will keep on walking.
Great walk, great people - well - apart from 1 who shall remain nameless for lowering the tone:o:o:hihi:
We have now been banned from camping with our group ever again due to a pensioner falling off his camper roof when a certain 'lady' kept wrapping her legs round her ears & took her trousers off & flashed her lime green undergarments:o(hehe only joking!) - but not about the lime green undergarments:D
zippydedodah 02-08-2009, 18:07 he he.
Today was so funny. thank you everybody for being marvellous and thank you to the weather for being more like summer. Very tired now but very happy.

Looking forward to seeing Taxman's photos!
Hope you all have a fab time in France! See ya all soon! :D
Like other people I thought that sharing responsibilities worked well today, and for me personally it made for an easier walk, which suited me fine. Even got to spend a bit of time with 'er indoors today :o.
Some great moments too, including a promise by Bambigirl to show us all how to float with our heads under water without drowning, when we get to France :loopy:.
17 of us enjoyed a decent walk in decent weather today, and the roll-call was.....Village Owl, MrsDJ, Bambigirl, Bruno, Eclair, Hemlock, Mr Hemlock, David, Anne D, Mrpedantic, Taxman, Rivelin6, Mamsquirrel, Zippydedoodah, Poppypopstar, Scoobz, Billysmum.
MissChatter 02-08-2009, 21:58 great walk today and great company.xx

I to think the shared responsibilities worked really well, and ment that the the walk leaders could all enjoy the walk, though i really wish i had my camera watching the taxman being the back marker :hihi::hihi: the walk itself was fab the atmosphere amoungst us all was good humour lots of laugher and yes some did lower the tone :suspect::hihi:
The walk was just like the first day i joined but without the stick in the mud stuff:hihi: happy days. xx
Hey, lowered tone and no detail? that's not fair!
BAMBIGIRL 03-08-2009, 09:51 Blimey! i`ve taken some flack. What a brilliant day, thanks everyone. Oh, and ta to Hemlock, and her man for that cup of tea ,and although i didn`t get any beer in me, i got quite a bit over me! cheers Hemlock x
Here are a few pictures from Sunday's walk Chatsworth (http://www.brunosentertainments.co.uk/chatsworth.htm)
MissChatter 03-08-2009, 12:01 nice photos bruno, i usually take loads but i forgot to charge my batteries up.x
Village Owl 03-08-2009, 12:17 Great photo's Bruno.
My legs are still aching which just goes to show the detrimental effects of not going out walking for a number of weeks.
Here are the photos (http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/saulmcintyre/Chatsworth09#) from yesterday :)
Village Owl 03-08-2009, 16:50 Great photo's Taxman.
We've not had any photos for a while, so it's nice to see some again, especially of the standard that you two guys have done. The one with the 2 sheep (S & L?) had me roaring with laughter Taxman, it's a classic. Also liked the funghi.
And Bruno got some smashing pics of the Hunting Tower, I think they were cleverly put together.
