Just thought I would report my second sighting of a pair of bright green Parrot type birds in Norton . Last friday evening near to the entrance of Graves park near to Norton Church , this evening on my back garden in a tree . We are on Norton Lane near to Cloonmore Drive . I got a very good look tonight as they flew off as I came out of my garage . Dont think they are Parakeets , they have a long & slender tail .
They are probably recent escapees .
Huso from Oyes has lost his two ? I know they are also in the insight magazine from the church up there. I don't know how to catch them though.
They make it down to Nether Edge occasionally. I don't think that they are recent escapees - I've been told that parakeets are the only exotics that don't get mobbed by native birds (I was told this by one person, in a pub, I have literally no evidence to back it up) and that apparently they've made a small colony round these parts

Sorry but just had to say that I've had a totally crap day and this made me smile.
Thank you
Indian Ring necked parakeets- bright green, long tail feathers red beak - males have a black and red ring around their necks hence name. I had one back in the early 70s (named Polly, how original, only found out she was a he when he matured and developed the ring...) He cost £4 from Maces Pet Store.
They are very common down south - all those folk who bred or bought them and got fed up - so many escaped or were dumped they are practically native now. I love them and would have another or preferably two in an aviary if I'd got the space.
I have seen one in netheredge he has been around for quite awhile the other 2 escaped during a windy spell when a piece if the avairy roof got blown off.
