Hi there

I am currently undertaking a masters degree in Ergonomics. For my research project I am wanting to look at whether the appearance of assistive equipment (specifically that which helps with daily living activites) matters to those who use it.

The research would involve some small focus groups to discuss your thoughts on the appearance of such equipment. I work at Sheffield Hallam University (I am an occupational therapy lecturer) so plan to use the Collegiate Crescent campus as a venue for the groups but if this is a problem for people I can look at alternative locations. It is hoped that I can organise the groups over the summer whilst the university is quiet so you would need to be available in August/early September.

The only inclusion criteria for the study would be that you have some level of physical disability and that you have had some awareness/contact with the type of equipment I am referring to. This may include raised toilet seats, bathing equipment etc. If you would be interested in being involved please could you contact me either through this forum or via email at e.l.taylor@shu.ac.uk. Each focus group will be a maximum of 7/8 people and should take approximately an hour. I will provide refreshments and where necessary can reimburse costs (it's coming out of my own pocket though so please bear that in mind!!)

If there is anything else you want to know in the meantime then please let me know - it is probably worth posting a question on the forum in case others are wondering the same thing.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is an area that people will be interested in and hopefully contribute to what I feel is an important topic area.

I look forward to hearing from you all!

Emma Taylor
