Well in a few days, were driving to Milan in Italy, then after there for a day or 2, its a slow drive (ok fast drive, i need to get there quick!) accross Europe upto Dresden...Hes been round Europe with me before, but never to Switzerland, Italy, and a couple more countries, and we are gone for a month, he loves to swim, so the German seaside and the river Elbe in Dresden are his fave places, he always gets tired out but then he loves to eat the German meats...and when i take fotos of him, no joke, im sure you can see him smiling in the fotos!!

So im not sure, is it him thats lucky, or me? hes been my best friend since a puppy, about 13 or so years now i think, he wont leave my side, and i hated leaving him behind when i went, so got him a pet passport a couple of years ago...and hes never no trouble when i take him, even if i have to drive a 1000 miles in a day with a few stops for a coffee and a wee.

If all goes to plan, im gone for a month, back home for a month to sort things out, empty the house etc then move over to Dresden to live....he would like it there, i know i do.

So hopefully Wed, were off...should get to Milan Thursday night, they like dogs there, and spoil them, but dress them up as fashion accessories, but i would not do that to him! it wouldnt suit him!!

Just hoping nowt goes wrong...but looking forward to him, and as soon as i load the car up, he will know its a trip around Europe and he will be as exited as me!! :-)

This sounds amazing, we are really hoping that by next year Luna will be chilled enough to handle a journey like this. We're off camping round Scotland for two weeks tomorrow so will be her first test of seriously long journeys (we hope to make Orkney by monday).
Good luck

I find Europe v v god friendly, hes spoilt rotten in Germany and Poland, and he soon settles down the car, and here is a foto of him on our last in late 07, fast asleep in the car on the way back through Germany....hes protecting all the beer ;-)

I think people should if they can, get dogs a pet passport, i used to cut my trips short, cos i missed the dog, so bit the bullet and got him one...a holiday with Arthur, makes it special.

Sounds like you will have a great time. I've been thinking of getting a dog passport as the weather here is unpredictable and as lovely as the UK is I like my sunny holidays :) I just need to save up for the motor home to go with the doggy passport

How much does it cost to transfer a dog from country to country once you get into mainland Europe? Or is it just getting back into the UK that the vet check is needed for? We would be able to spend a month and a half every summer touring around Europe so it would be worth our while.

Have a lovely trip.

all you do, is here get it chipped, rabies etc, and wait 6 months, for last blood test to say its ok...then off you go....simple as that

to get back, 48/24 hours before the ferry goto a vet, get them to give worm tablet and something else, stamp and date/sign passport and thats it.....i do it in Berlin (lots of vets are 24 hours in europe)

i have hundreds of fotos of me and my dog in Europe (on my website), he loves it.....and lots of places are dog friendy, esp in Germany.....they spoil him!

Great to hear your news Jules.
Your know our last dog, Merry, couldn't even sit in a car without sicking up, even stationary on the drive whereas Digby's first trip was to Cornwall and he slept all the way.
You're both lucky to have each other. Hug to you, and snogs to Arthur! x

Thanks Maggie. you wouldnt belive how happy i am now...if i get the chance to call over before Wed i will do, i have met the most amazing girl ever, someone i let go in 07 and have a 2nd bite of the cherry (or is it a apple?)

Arthur will have the time of his life again in Europe, he travels to places that even some people dont get to see.

(on a sad note, i went to see my granddad last week, and he didnt recognise me or Arthur at all, knew this day was coming with his Alz, but wasnt nice)

Hope you have a lovely time Jules - and keep updating us with the pics

We went to Germany earlier this year with my family and our DDB - he adores going with us, and the minute we get the bags on board - he's off and ready. Gets his head down and will drive forever.

Would love to know some good places to go to - where its not too hot. We are going abroad this year but just to Brittany and having to leave him at home with friends because having to go in horrible heat time (yuk)

Anyway - send us the route and some pics and hope you both have a great time there.

That was the route i planned a few weeks ago, now a slight change, from Milan, im straight off to spend 2 weeks with Kat, have to visit a few friends too, and if i can get a few days at the German seaside, Ruegen i will do, Arthur loves it there... Kat cannot only get a week off work at the start of Aug, so thats why im getting there a week early..

Its much hotter over there, but the dog copes, better than me...plus he spends most of the time in the sea, rivers or lakes anyway....
