View Full Version : The France deal wednesday not happy

After having trials at Sheffield Wednesday Ryan France opted to join their bitter and bigger rivals Sheffield United.
After asking why he joined the Blades he replied he knew that money was tight at hillsbro but he drew a line at bringing his own toilet paper.
The signing of France to the Blades has understandibly angered Owls fans as it shows how destitute they really are.

Hands up corky.
This is a wind up to a certain extent but i have to say when the thread came up about him joining Wednesday i posted on what type of player he was because i was curious in who was joining one of Sheffield's sides.
It was all going to be a great singing etc and now you cant get any Wednesday fan to say anything decent about him.
I know we have banter between ourselves but we can also acknowledge if we are genuine fans when things have gone wrong.
The reason he didn't join Wednesday is money, not injuries or whatever else just plain and simple finances.
This then raises the question, if you cant get a lifelong supporter to join you then there is something seriously wrong.

No excuses coming from me about France he looked good Tuesday but like some Unitedite said on ere, it was a meaningless friendly, what he's like in a proper game i don't know.
I will say one thing though he looks like hes got an eye for goal, something what United have missed in recent seasons from midfield, he could turn out to be the best signing of the lot.

But if clubs don't offer "daft" money, then good players won't come. If good players don't come then teams fail. If teams fail, the attendances drop. If attendances drop then the revenue drops and the team ends up in trouble.

Like it or not, the beautiful game is governed by money in this day and age.

Well, United's new chief scout (Brian Laws) was desperate to get him, and as he's got a good eye for a value/free player, i'll take that as a positive recommendation of France (coupled with the owls on here wanting to sign him after Hartlepool).

He's odds on to either get the winner in the Lane derby, or get sent off! :)

An odd affair though, and i'm sure Laws is privately quite annoyed at having the rug pulled out on him by his paymasters (though as a pro he'll cover that up in the media).

I was a bit miffed when I heard about France signing for United. But after reading that Laws was concerned about France's knee injury and therefore offered a lesser wage, I'm not so fussed. He's obviously gone to the lane for more money, which no one can blame him for. The wage I've heard quoted isn't worth it IMO and Wednesday would have been daft to try to match it.
Good luck to the lad, he would have been a good squad player, but not a world beater to break the bank for.

I agree with you, there's only one person looking stupid over this affair and that is Blackwell as he's obviously only signed him to deflect some of the criticism he's been getting over the sale of the Kyles.

Can't we spark interest in another couple of players for him to throw money at.

I genuinely couldn't care less, I don't think he offers anymore than what we have (nor than you have for that matter).

What I find amusing is that it just seems Blackwell has done this to deflect some of the attention away from the transfer of the Kyles. To an extent this has worked, but it seems a very childish and expensive thing to do in order to achieve this.

I don't think you're that bothered about the player, just gutted that United have poached a player from Laws. How many posts have you put about Blackwell in the last 24 hours. :hihi: It's fair enough, I've already stated I'd be really gutted if it was the other way around.

I don't see how Blackwell has done this to deflect attention away from the Kyles transfer (which I think everyone saw coming since about March, anyway), surely the Evans signing has done a much better job of that. Beating two premier sides for his signature and signing a player who has been playing for a good premier side is much more of a story.

I don't see how signing a player that you want, who will probably be one of the lower wage earners, to pad out the squad is childish or expensive... I feel you're reaching.

I do agree that he doesn't seem to add much, and it seems a silly move for him as while he'll make more money at United he'll almost certainly get less games.

Nail on head.

All the Blunts that were crying about being a selling club (which they're not, the Kyles deal was good business) are now cock-a-hoop 'cos they've signed a player that Wednesday were interested in.

When The Owls were linked with France back in April I was totally under-whelmed. Any club with hopes of getting out of The Championship this season ought to be looking at better players. It seems to me that neither Sheffield club will be promoted.

Ahhh right... but when you do it it's just you having a giggle... :)

As for Mr T's thoughts about Blackwell signing France to deflect talk of the Kyle deal... clutching at straws there! Signing a very good prospect from a Premiership club in Ched Evans would have been more than enough to do that! France and Treacy are to bolster the squad, and hopefully challenge to get in the starting eleven.

I think he's signed France as he's intending to move some other midfielders out, and also as Williamson is still unfit. As anyone who saw either Sheffield midfield will know, both teams can do with all the decent midfielders they can get, neither side can claim to have a strong Championship midfield really.

Whether he becomes an integral part of the team, or is sat on the bench/treatment table a lot, I really doubt that McCabe would've sanctioned a deal just to score points over Strafford and Laws.
