I'm moving out to 'Owd Ooty' soon and wondered if any of you lot could tell me more about the place please.

From the bus timetables it looks like there's a pretty good service but as there's been chuntering elsewhere about it I wondered if it isn't that reliable or something.

Also, I'm moving from the lovely land of Telewest so no cable TV or internet. The Telewest site keeps recommending me to NTL but I've heard they aren't too good and may not even cover Outibridge.

Anything on the nicest pubs, community stuff and suchlike would be most appreciated ta!

There is no cable at all in Oughtibridge so can only have a BT line and then Sky if looking for TV services.

The bus service is good although was better in the past but you can get to the tram terminus at Middlewood if you rather travel by the tram.

Think you would be very happy living there, its a nice place to live and has some good pubs.

Regarding bus services it all depends on where you are going to live as the 57/58 ( 58a Peak only)and 201 (M-S) 268/269 (Sun/BH Mon) serve different parts of the village however all cover the village centre. In the event of snow most will only operate along the main A616 and will not go into the hilly estates!
The village has a few shops and a post office and a choice of 5 pubs and all offer a real ale option.
It has an Infant/junior school and the Comp is at Worrall (Bradfield Comp).
A local park is on station road and there are still lots of local public footpaths going out into open countryside like Bradfield/Grenoside/Wharncliffe Woods/ Ewden etc.
If you are living in the valley of Oughtibridge then Tv reception will be on the local relay ... so No channel 5 or Digital reception. As you move up the valley bottom coverage is better as you will be able to pick up the Emley moor signal(all services).
Hope this info is of use.

I'll be just off Low Road so hopefully the buses will be okay unless there's big snow.

I wondered if freeview digital was an option so thanks for the info Silverknight, I've saved cash on trying out a digibox knowing it won't work in advance. Looks like Sky is the only option.

So pleased it seems to be a real ale haven!

As you are going to live in the Low Road area you may pick up an Emley moor Signal, the black spots are down by the river as you are in a shadow of the hill and wood. It may be worth asking the neighbours or check the roof aerials as Emley Moor requires the aerial elements to be Horizontal and the local relay is vertical. If you require uhf channel numbers I can Pm them to you.

It is next to the river but the aerial was horizontal and pointing towards Hillsborough - dunno if that means anything.

I'm thinking my DAB hifi will be a bit useless there at the moment too?

That will mean it could be picking up the Belmont signal? as Sheffield Crosspool service is also vertical. Tv and Radio reception has a world of its own! If the aerial elements are of a cross type it may be a 'mixed' style to improve the signal it picks up. It may be case of asking which version of Calendar/Look North your neighbours have as this will indicate which transmitter it picks up.
Calendar South / Look North Leeds = Sheffield
Calendar / Look North Leeds = Emley Moor
Calendar East / Look North Lincs & E Yorks = Belmont
Hope that helps!

Ooh ta - that will be most handy until I sort out that airy fairy tv malarkey.

Cheers Silverknight!
