In XP, click on Folder Options on the View menu, then the View tab at the top and there's an option to show hidden files and folders. In Windows 2000 it's Tools > Folder Options, not sure about other versions...

the hidden files will be System files that Windows or other programs use to run - e.g, DLL, INI, OCX files.

Nothing of any real interest.

Oh...? I thought Windows put system files in the System folder not the My Documents folder :suspect:

Desktop settings;) (go have a look - make sure you have view hidden files selected from explorer - View -> Folder Options -> View -> Show All Files).

Hmm - do you mean desktop.htt or desktop.ini ? Neither of these are the My Docs folder on my system, - but then it's Win98...I'm very much one of yesterday's men ;)

This is strange. If I look at My Docs with Explorer, Desktop.ini isn't listed even though I have 'view all files' enabled [always have had]. Yet it is listed in Powerdesk which is my usual file manager with attributes hsa, and also comes up in Windows File Finder.

Anyway I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it ;)
