View Full Version : Wales High School, Kiveton Park.
kev21662 17-07-2005, 21:07 Which year did Wales High School first take in pupils? The local history site says 1970; but I'm certain that it was still being built when I was across the road at Kiveton Park Meadows Junior School (1970 to 1973). Kevin Taylor.
I dont know if this is of any use, but have a look anyway.

Grandad.Malky 01-01-2006, 10:18 I left Wales High School in 1976, when I first started the school had only just opened, don’t know if we were the first intake of kids or the second. 1970, 1971 sounds about right to me!
melthebell 01-01-2006, 10:40 OFF TOPIC
i never went to the schools in kiveton, i dont really know the area
BUT can i just say
i once did a years community program in kiveton park (1988 i believe), we were in a hut just down from the train station on the same side of the road, on a big field with a pub at the entrance? ring a bell?
we used to go round oaps houses painting and decorating and gardening......we also built a park.....swings etc
twas when you got paid half decent money (think it was about 60 pound) before they got rid and yts's etc started (more work, less money)
all i can remember apart from the places mentioned was the chippy, the building society where we all used to pile into and get money out
sorry about hijacking the thread, just the mention of kiveton reminded me :)

Was the pub called the Forge by any chance?
Or The Saxon?

I have imbibed in both mel...I know it's a bit off topic....but The Forge is near to the shops on Station Road, not very far as you walk from the railway station towards Wales. Near there is the Kiveton Library, behind which is a large Community Playing field run by the Council, with children's swings etc.
This Playing Field is opposite a Chippie on the other side of the road as you come out of the entrance.
Bet that's the place. Lived at Todwick since 1964.....moved here to presesent address in 1977.... Know Kiveton watering holes and Storth Lane quite well...used to ride a horse I had then from Todwick to Kiveton via Storth Lane, back along Station Road up to Todwick via Kiveton Lane....Happy memories.
