View Full Version : Pumps and filters ? grey seal 22-07-2009, 18:18 Hi, just had a bigger pond ,using a green genie 2000, and oasis pump 1500, the pond is 475 ltrs and the filter is just trickling water out ,been on some websites but can`t find out right answers.Thankyou for any advise NUCAD 22-07-2009, 23:57 Have u checked the obvious like blocked pipes. Put the pump in a bucket of water with no piping and ensure this part works on its own. Next check the head height (difference in height from pump to exit point of water) most smaller pumps only have around a metre height. In all cases the more height you want to lift the water the flow drops off dramatically. Let us know how you get on will see if i can help further. Have almost completed the new pond here its now around 3000 gallons the fish are having a field day :hihi: grey seal 23-07-2009, 11:37 Thanks for the reply.I have checked for blockages, head height is ok,do you think the pump is powerful enough. NUCAD 23-07-2009, 11:44 does the pump function without the outlet pipe connected ? grey seal 23-07-2009, 12:32 yes Iv`e done what you advised and put the pump in a bucket and it worked fine.I have also noticed the water in the pond is a liitle murky .I forgot to say it also has a fountain attatchment but have taken that off but the flow is just the same.Sorry for being a pain but cannot fathom what is wrong . NUCAD 23-07-2009, 16:32 this ultimately only leaves 2 options then try placing the pump on a large stone or stones (make sure they are not sharp and damage liner if in doubt wrap them in some liner offcuts) this will reduce the head height and should increase flow and also prevent larger debris entering the pump. The other alternative is its just not powerfull enough. What is the stated throughput on the pump. it should change the water every couple of hours ie should have at least 250 litres per hour. Is the head height etc within the pump guidelines ?. foxyflugel 23-07-2009, 18:28 Hi - on your Green Genie - it should state a max/min flow rate. If your pump is below the min flow rate that is your problem - sounds to me like your pump is not powerful enough (including pumping to the height of your filter). It is best to go to the max flow rate when buying a pump then at least you can control the flow if it is too much - as opposed to the other way and it just trickling out of your filter. I would buy a bigger pump as the Oasis 1500 is predominantly for fountain/waterfall use and I don't think the one you have is strong enough - it will also take more flow off to the filter if you use the fountain pipe as well. Also make sure you try and use the widest pipe that is recommended as this will help flow through the filter (I'm presuming it has a UV on it) I would leave this one to be a fountain feature and buy another specifically for running the filter - one of the round cage ones - guarantee it'll work  |
