View Full Version : How far do you take the love for your club?
Antics^^ 21-07-2009, 22:50 Having seen MadOwl's tattoo it got me wondering at what length do people go to show their support for their team? As a Blade I say well done to the bloke, even though it isn't historically correct for his owl to be dominating the swine on his back. :hihi:
Other dilemma's I have heard lately are of a bloke who is best man at his brother's wedding, the day of the opening game against 'Boro. He's contemplating skipping it or cutting the wedding short
freyasdad 21-07-2009, 22:58 When i got married she chose the day when we played Barnsley at home when there was a proper atmosphere for those games.
We got married, i went to match while she managed the food and i went back to the reception with all the mates from the match.
Went down a real treat.
Women can be fussy sometimes.
Antics^^ 21-07-2009, 23:01 She's sounds like a keeper to me, if she let you get away with that!
There's two ways to look at it, getting married only happens once in your lifetime (for most), a game against Barnsley will come around again. On the other hand it could be one the best derby games ever, then you'd be kicking yourself, wedding or not!
Plain Talker 21-07-2009, 23:07 When I was too ill to attend the matches a few years ago (lifelong blade, here:- well, since I was 2 yrs old!) I still insisted my husband went to the match, so he could have a bit of R&R.
"Saturdays are for Football!"
Today, I support my team, home, and (when I can) away, even attending pre-season friendlies, and the Masters Tournaments. Let no-one say I am a fair-weather fan.

Commendable. But would you attend a game if it clashed with your wedding? Or maybe it would harm your chances of getting a promotion, still attend? :)
Go to as many games as work and money allow, home and away wherever possible, but real life comes first, and it's still just a game. I'd never have a tattoo or let football interfere with who I'm friends with, affect my work, or affect my family life.

Agreed- same here.
A couple of years united were playing reading on valentines day at home- it was a crucial match as we were 1 and 2 in the league. All my mates said that i can't miss the match and it was the most crucial of the season,i disagreed, took our lass out for an amazing meal in town and had a great night.
You know what hapened at the footy- we drew 0-0 and we both went up.
Life goes on, football is just a distraction ;)
mickdalewood 22-07-2009, 09:59 When i got married we chose an away game and it was West Ham. When it came for the speeches somebody had to come and get me and the best man out of the car as we were listening to the game live on the radio, in-laws not to impressed.
Also in 1979 when we had that marathon with Arsenal i lived in Islington and wanted to get to Leicester for the 3rd replay and as i was working at 7 the following morning and all forms of transport would not get me back in time i walked to Highbury joined the Arsenal travel club and supporters club just so i could get a ticket for their coach and travel up and back with them
crookesey 22-07-2009, 11:38 I have SWFC tattooed on my dick. The wife was very unimpressed until she saw it change to SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY FOOTBALL CLUB. ;)

According to his wife, Titanic has a similar tattoo. Although his only manages to change to 'SWFC' :-)
al_partridge 22-07-2009, 14:04 I've missed family weddings to attend Wednesday games. Selfish gets shouldn't get married in the football season if they don't like it.
My son was born 15 days late (was due just before the season started) and finally came, by emergency caesarian, on the morning that Wednesday were at home to Wolves 2 years ago. I still went to the game :) We lost 3-1.
Paul Blade 22-07-2009, 15:34 My Brother was getting married in 92
As he was in the army his wife to be and her mother arranged everything
All he said was not on a Saturday as all our family and most of his friends were footy fans Silly 'angels' arranged it for SATURDAY 11th of MARCH day of the Wednesday United Derby
At a get together we had an Idea
This is how it worked
