After 30 odd years the old electrical shop which was run by Mr & Mrs Watkinson until recently, is finally closing business. It was sad to see the name board come down - as this row of shops will soon be demolished to make way for the 'masterplan'.

Anyway, I'd just like to wish Barbara and her family all the best for the future. It was a shop that saved my life many times - when I needed batteries, tv bits etc . . .

Did they used to have a branch in Ecclesfield too, next to the library? I'm sure my Dad bought me some walkie talkies from there when I was a kid. Sad news.

No, it was a local family business, that was passed on from the grandparents who were actually called Sockett - alot of people thought this name was made up as a pun for the shop.

I suppose if theres any budding photographers out there - now is the time to be taking photo's of an area which is going to change big time!!

As far as I know 1man - the shops are all for the chop, Skinnerthorpe Road is to be flattened, the junction of Barnsley Road & Herries is going to be put further back towards where the petrol station used to be and where the petrol station was is where the all-new Tesco will be placed.

Yet another meeting very soon though. Will keep you posted.
