I have a Hawthorn hedge which I think is as old as the house (1930's), behind the shed there is a gap of 4-5 metres which I want to plant up with a hedge. There was a huge old sycamore tree there which has now gone apart from 3 stumps.

Help please, where can I buy good mature hedging, and when do I plant it for the best results?

Also is there anything I should do to the soil bearing in mind the tree/roots.
