Moved to Entertainment.

Generally speaking, the ones that are worth lots of money are the rare first pressings, but even then only when they're in really good condition.

I sold one of my Nick Drake first pressing albums for £150, but the second pressing of the same album (also from 1969) and in similar good condition was only worth £20.

If you think that you've got any records which are in good enough condition to be collectable then I'd recommend giving EIL a call- just Google EIL and rare vinyl and their site will be on the first page.

as meds said theres a lot of details between rare and not rare vinyl

i collect vinyl and buy mainly from charity shops these days, i do find some rarities

generally ones that are worth more are

either first editions or really old records by the classic artists (theyd have things like inserts, inner bags that later reissues dont, what we call flipback sleeve for the 50s / 60s stuff, where the cover folds over with little flaps stuck to the OUTSIDE of the cover on the back, or different colour / detailed labels (ie:- early island labels were pink, later ones were blue with different palm tree designs)
also if there was a shift between formats (ie:- when 78s were slowing and 45 singles started they might have sold less 78s OR 45 of say a rolling stones single so the format that sold less may be worth more)
some records just might not have sold...or be too obscure, like 1970s private pressings of some rock / prog rock etc can sell for £100+
condition also plays a part (which charity shops fail to see when they shove an elvis or beatles album on the wall for £20 and is scratched to buggery.)

ive had some success, bought 3 beatles fanclub flexidiscs once for £1.25 each and sold em for £60 (theyre worth £60 each mind, they wernt in amazing nick)
i also have quite a rare pharoah sanders (mad jazz dude) which i bought for £5 and is worth £60

one notable failure was an album by a uriah heep spinoff band called orgasm - head machine (http://takdavno.ru/musimages/Head%20Machine69.jpg) i'd never heard of it but it looked interesting, normally id buy an album that looked interesting but it was "knackered" so i didnt bother, wish i had now purely to stick on mi wall, found out its worth £125 ish
