View Full Version : Ladies cross dress friendly shops in Sheffield
Are there any ladies cross dress friendly shops in Sheffield and I don't mean those Adult shops down Attercliffe. Those conventional shops with People that work there that don't treat you like someone from outer space. pm if you know or can help.
I don't know if Cole Brothers/John Lewis has the same attitude as the branch in Peterborough, but we had a couple of regulars in there
It was far easier to deal with blokes who didn't start with 'my wife's about the same size as me....' coz you never knew who you were actually trying to please :suspect:
FairyNormal 17-07-2005, 10:53 Having been shopping with several TV/CD friends, I have never had a shop assistant be nasty or make any kind of rude remarks to them. I think if you went in prancing about like the two 'Laydee's' off Little Britain then something would be said!
Going shopping with a female friend does make it a lot easier. Having said that, if you're spending money, yours is as good as anyone elses so most shops really aren't bothered. That's my experience anyway.
Good luck!
I used to work in a well know chain for larger women for a very brief time.
We used to get the odd TV ( or should I say what I suspected were men!) in for clothes or men just buying womens clothes. They never tried the clothes on in store as I guess they don't have men changing rooms. The staff never were never rude to them and treated well as a sale is a sale.
We used to get a few in the out of town Marks I used to work in too and in another well known jean shop I used to work in we used to get men trying on the girls jeans as they wanted the flared bit at the bottom, which mens jeans don't tend to have, though they normally never had the bum to fill them!

Just go for it. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.....its your life and your money.....spend it where and on what you choose.
I think some of the larger stores are pretty good as far as selling the clothes but if must be a real pain if you want to try them on.
Mail order catalogues are probably the easiest places to get clothes from.
Pulse & cocktail do larger sizes of ladies shoes especially for men.
I sell make-up and skin care and would love to do a party for men (along with make-up tips etc)
not wanting to be a party pooper or anything but should we be talking about stuff like this on a so called familly forum

I don't see any reason why not.
i dont no to be honest i wouldnt want my child to be reading about hairy guys who like to be called mary with a size 18 dresses
you have to draw a line at something
I think you would be surprised how many men are cross dressers. If we were more accepting of men being allowed to dress how they want and didn't make them feel it was something to be ashamed of then they wouldn't feel like it was a guilty secret and hide it from people. Be open minded, cross dressing doesn't mean the man is a pervert and children wouldn't think it was strange if adults didn't put the idea in their head that it was. I know I am going to get into trouble from a load of angry parents, I understand why you want to protect your kids but a pervert doesn't look like a pervert usually - they look like someones friendly uncle and that's how they get away with it.
Women have been dressing the way they want for a long time now. They wear 'traditional mens clothes' & make-up if they choose or no make-up, no-one bats an eyelid. if a woman went out in combat trousers, Doc Martin boots and a vest, little over 100 years ago, she probably would have ended up in an mental institution!
This person is asking if there are CD friendly shops that are not in a dirty back alley:clap: credit where credit is due.
You are probably better off going to London or Brighton for the shops you want to buy clothes in, it would be a lot more relaxing atmosphere for you:)
We pop in to that Matalan on the Parkway from time to time and there is always a bloke or two in there buying ladies shoes or clothes.
I have to admit we always have a little giggle. I know there nothing wrong with it so dont all start on me, but you do dont you.

Do you really think that your child isnt going to hear.see these things for themselves outside of the forum? And you cant really talk with that Avatar!
evildrneil 18-07-2005, 09:12 So long as you are up front and honest I don't think you will have any problems.
And I would love to meet the person who decided that skirts are for girls and trousers are for boys and tell them that (anatomically speaking at least!) they got it the wrong way round!
Indeed .. look at the kilt... Personally i think men in kilts are sooo sexy.. mind if it were a floral floaty summer number I dont think it would be quite the same.. lol
evildrneil 18-07-2005, 10:51 Yoiu should have come along to the meet last night then to admire my luverly knees in their kilt ;)
I've got a kilt, it's fantastic in this weather, you get plenty of air to your "bits".

Where on this thread does it state that big hairy guys wanna dress up and be called Mary?
I dont see anything wrong with this thread... I feel there has been worse thread IMO...

never realised this was a "family" forum. quite shocked now after all the posts about student drinking, visits to adult shops and mor double entendre & sexual inuendo than Carry On and Frankie Howerd added together.
some people should grow up & get a life.

Speaking as someone who got their... who got caught in a sarong the other summer, are you sure?
I still have flashbacks...
evildrneil 18-07-2005, 11:56 A little light relief for the thread :D

Surely not as bad as boxer shorts and their amazing cheese wire gussets! Sit down to quickly and your voice rises at least an octave!
I am sure this person is getting more support from the ladies than the blokes. A friend of mine had great support from a lady who owned a small shop that has since closed on Staniforth Road, when it was a great deal more uncommon than it is now. It may be that those who take the micky are trying to cover something up themselves?

Why not talk about it on this forum.it is only clothes they are on about.and yes who says woman clothes are just for woman,i do not were nothing that is female range of clothes.but us females are ok to get away with it wereing jeans-tops-ect that blokes were all the time.
wake up will you.they will be cross dresses-gays- that do this if they please.and the 2 friends in my life as well as my x bf (rip) do this and they are not hairy so i dont know were you get that from too.
do you object to scotish men with kilts then,or is this ok because it is known in scotland and a tradition.are you goin to teach your child that this is wrong then and you choose the way they live, since you dont want them to read it.my child knows all about it and she 10 and she very happy to know about how diffrent people live as she wanted to know.and loves going girly shopping with one of my best male friends.

The line used to be drawn at women not wearing trousers.
And did you complain to the BBC about showing Beckham in a skirt?
And I didn't notice you complaining about an enquiry about gay bars
You've chosen an odd place to draw your lines, but is that because cross dressers aren't protected by the PC brigade?
MOD: Please stick to the thread topic. Do not use the thread to make personal insults or threaten other forumers

I would like to thank all the positive replies that have been made.
FairyNormal 18-07-2005, 16:39 Well I love a man in a dress, skirt, high heels, make up etc so there!!
My kids have met a great many of my TV/CD friends and accept them for who they are. Just for the record, NONE of them are gay!! They all hold down good responsible jobs and look like any other man about town when not dressed. They don't want to be women, they just want to dress like them.
I'm glad my kids know my friends. Hopefully they will grow up into tolerant people who don't judge because someone is different from the norm.
clogginchris 18-07-2005, 17:16 What about one of the most famous cross dressers there is who has a very public profile - Eddie Izzard!
 I thought he was adamant he was a TV and NOT a cross dresser?
Gets complicated, doesn't it
I love his style :D I suppose I just like spiky boots though
DaBouncer 18-07-2005, 17:27 I have a question (a genuine query) for you Trans.
When you buy your lady clothes for yourself and you want to try them on... which dressing rooms do you use?
I know most shops have unisex single booth dressing rooms these days but some still have comunal dressing rooms for the same sex people.
Where do you stand?
I only I know of a man who dresses as a lady (specifically for drag but in general sometimes too). He gets dressed as the lady in the mens loo's then uses the womens loo's while dressed as the lady.
Just wondered what the "norm" was

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
Cross dressers usually have no desire to look particularly like a woman or act like a woman. They like the look, and more importantly the feel of the clothes, often silky, slinky things.
Transvestites take on the persona of a a woman. They will wear wigs and make up and act in a feminine way. They will assume a female name and for the time they are dressed, they are that lady. This does not mean they want to BE a woman. That's a whole other story.
As for Eddie Izzard ....... he is my dream man drooool droool!!

And still none the wiser
Understand that the two main lingerie shops in Worksop town centre on the High Street and Ryton Road are very helpful and understanding especially the later. Don't know if thats too far to travel?
I worked at H + M in Meadowhall for a while, and I couldn't really care who tried what on, so long as they didn't pinch owt lol. Most people working there were like that I think.
absynthfairy 20-07-2005, 20:33 I just sold a pair of my size 9 knee high boots (i know - i have big feet) to a bloke on ebay - fairly sure they were for him. He'd bought quite a few other boots and clothes and bits too from what I can see...
Might be worth a try!

I'm sorry but have you SEEN today's other topics??
So far I have read on the forum about London explosions, armed police around sheffield, bomb scares at ponds forge, cars on fire, a teenage girl raped & left for dead at our main bus station, and drug addicts being left to die. And that's only on the first page of topics!
And you're bothered about some harmless dressing up?!
Personally I think that as a parent you've got youre priorities all wrong.
And if youre so worried about the wholesome-ness of this forum, then change your avatar.
commuter 21-07-2005, 22:02 getting back to the original question try calling John Lewis. They have a fashion adviser service in the ladies dept and may be more than happy to assist. They have a private dressing room and one of the advisers will bring you the clothes in so you don't have to wander round. we used the service when my gf was looking for a wedding outfit and were very pleased with the service.

Certainly seems as though there is a few people out there interested in this subject with the number of hits. Please do not hesistate to pm if you can help or you wish to talk or help.
I have just found this forum...
I live in sheffield and i would like to know of good places to buy lingerie for myself...
Its nice to see so many understanding people out there.
Primart, TG huges aren't too bad. . .
Its only seedy, if you think it is. . . it's just like purchasing porn.. if your ashamed of it. . then it can be made into a big thing, but If you know what your after and go for it. . no one will bat an eyelid. .
mores to the point, if your bothered/intimidated by the thoughs and opinions of perfect strangers, then you really need to think about that. . .
I dont think of it as seedy, and i dont have a problem buying either just fancied finding out any good places for them.
Sorry didnt meen to sound abrupt...
Ta for the info
the comments were aimed generally at the closed minds and not specifically for you, dude. .
Thanks & sorry...
I actually get a thrill from buying mine...
Yellowrose 13-11-2005, 18:02 Ebay is a good way to shop discreetly. I sold some of my unwanted clothes to men. Just ask the seller for precise measurements and you should be fine.
I have looked at e-bay before & found quite a few items interesting...
I might have a look again.

One of the technological problem with this forum is that avatars, descriptions and number of posts change with time and can make some posts look a bit strange.
Can anyone say what panda79's avatar looked like at the time of posting?

i believe the best way to treat children is to let things go on as normal, as soon as you start hiding this and that life gets very complicated, kids get confused and dont know about life
im not saying you have to sit em down and explain about every type of person or actually go this is the best way, to live, this is good
what would be next no speaking about drugs, sex, swearing etc etc
theyll grow up a very sheltered and nieve life

why would a bloke want to put womens clothes on:confused:
I do it for two reasons.
1. Alot of the time they are more comfortable.
2. If i dont i feel a need to do so.
Answer this, If you saw that Next started selling a line of Suspenders for men to wear, and everyone started wearing them would you.
Also who says that people cant wear what they feel comfortable in.

Cause they get enjoyment out of it. Obviously. :loopy:
I wouldn't want to play football, but I can see that other people get enjoyment out of it.
I enjoy watching football though. I assume that you enjoy watching comics like Eddie Izzard, Lilly Savage or Dame Edna?
You could say 'why would they want to' about anything... Why would someone want to go bungie jumping? Why would someone want to wear stilleto heels? Why would someone want to eat meat?
It takes all sorts to make a world

You called?!!! lol!
I won't labour the point but I have many male friends who cross dress and a fair few who are transvestites. A lot have very high powered jobs and are 'one of the lads'. What they do in the privacy of their own homes is nobodies buisness but theirs. How do you know that your boss, or the guy sat next to you in the pub, or even your own brother/father/son isn't wearing some lovely silky panties under his buisness suit/jeans/tracksuit? Answer ........... you don't. Most keep quiet for fear of narrow minded people ridiculing them.
Personally, I would much rather have a cd/tv for a partner, someone who is confident enough in himself to know that wearing ladies clothes or underwear does *NOT* affect his masculinity, than some jumped up beer swilling 'macho' man.
Besides, it is a HUGE turn on!! ;)  :wow: :P

There is a big difference.
For any of the TV's Cd's on here, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
A cross dresser likes to wear womens clothing. Sometimes it is just underwear. They like the feel of the materials and it often enables them to relax and feel comfortable. They don't want to look like a woman or be a woman, they just like the freedom to wear womens clothes. The rarely wear make up or wigs etc and make little effort to look like a 'real' woman.
A transvestite is a man who wishes to assume the persona of a woman. They will go the whole hog, wearing make up, wigs, shoes etc. When dressed, they assume a female persona. Their voice is softer, they chose a female name and their manliness is all but gone (on outward appearance). For the time they are dressed, they are the woman they chose to be.
For example, a good friend of mine was in the navy for years and to all intents and purposes he is a 'real' man. He is covered in tatoos, almost bald and likes nothing better than a pint and a game of footy. When he first told me he was a transvestite I just laughed and could never imagine this manly, beer swilling navvy as a woman. When he is dressed as 'Steff' the change in him is remarkable. He looks like a convincing woman and can go out dressed with no problems. His whole person changes. He becomes softer, more relaxed and definatley more confident. He doesn't want to be a woman (he is not a Transexual/transgendered person) but ofr the time he is dressed he is Steff, a lady. At the end of the day when the make up is off and he is back in his jeans, he is still the same person.
I guess it's just the flip side of a coin really.
I hope that explains it a bit better and please feel free to correct me if I am wrong anyone!

Its like the standard misconception that most are either Bi or Gay. It is only a VERY small number that are.

As I said before, they are comfortable with who they are. Does a woman wearing trousers automaticaly become a dyke? Wearing womens clothes DOES NOT mean you are gay. Men who cross dress don't have to prove themselves to anyone. If they are straight they are straight ............. end of!

Good point well made - pass the lippy ;)
You are right Pulse do but they are WAY over priced....
As are Gash.
I see we still have a few who wonder if we are "Normal" or not... Or even Straight.
I just wondered. Didn't Roman soldiers wear a skirt? And farm workers a smock, and monks a habit. These were habitual wear and no one thought anything about it. My question is, would cross dressers choose to wear these garments for comfort, or does it have to be clothes designed specifically for women?

Why should a 'geezer in a frock' not be straight? As far as I was aware straight/gay was a matter of sexuality not what you wear / how many pints you neck / how many fights you get into / how frequently you scratch your balls in public etc.
I've known quite a few CD/TV (and have been known to throw on a frock myself for a particularly good party, or a kilt for a less good party!) and on the whole they tend to be far more secure in their sexuality and happy with themselves than your average football watching, beer swilling blokey bloke!
So go on Kirky stop covering up and break out that pink taffeta ballgown of your dreams, you know you'll look just divine in it ;)
or does it have to be clothes designed specifically for women?
Not always.
There are shops out there that sell clothes that are designed for men with a femanine look.
X-Dress for example...

I have a friend who is totally straight and likes to dress up in womens clothing...
He doesnt go out dressed up tho as he doesnt feel comfortable enough as yet... but i think he will get there eventually...
I have seen him as a man and a woman... he's still the same person underneath and looks fab!
Some men who dress up... tend to like the feel of the softness of materials... and like the way a woman feels... so likes to dress like one...
The way i see it is most men have a feminine side... some are just more in touch with that side of themselves than others...
Its all about expressing one's self
Whilst i was working down south... i noticed there were 2 men there that were dressed as women... strange when your in the lift and hearing this deep voice coming from what you thought was a woman... but as long they're happy and comfortable who are we to stand in the way! :)
Are women more sympathetic towards a man who cross dresses do you think?
craigmason 17-11-2005, 15:06 If men have the urge to dress up in womens clothes and feel more secure like that why dont they go and have a sex change opp ????????? ther must be somthing wrong with people like this :loopy: :loopy: :loopy:
I think that Eddie Izzard has a valid point when he says that women can wear trousers so why can't men wear dresses?
After saying that, it wasn't always acceptable to do so.
Maybe there is hope that one day, the clothes that we choose to wear will be totally irrelevant and not influence the way we are viewed by others.

Of course they are, they can talk about makeup and things and there is no moaning from the man when she says "lets go shopping" :D:D:D

Not trying offend, however this comment does appear to be loaded with narrow-minded denial. .
. . if you have a favorite yellow shirt that makes you feel different/more special when you wear it, how is it different to feeling different / special for wearing female clobber???

"In your opinion there is a difference, there isn't in my opinion!"
Both are people wearing cloths, both have a reason for their choices!
If I wish to walk the street/go to work wearing a pink shirt with black spots on. . who are you to pass judgement on what I'm doing. .
Someone earlier in this thread said, normally kids grow out of pointing out/ridiculing differences that they don't / can't understand, as they learn to not judge and simply accept. . then again some kids don't. . .
Which category would you say you fall into, kirky. . personally, with all due respect, I'd say the latter. .

i'd say your entitled to your opinion just as i am so we'll agree to disagree, but i still think geezers in drag should be kept behind closed doors. EDITED LAST BIT AS NOT TO CAUSE OFFENCE

Not all men who dress up want to be women... like my friend who i mentioned early he's happy being a man and is happy with his partner and his sexuality... but he likes the touch and feel of womens clothing so likes to dress as one...
Everyone has fantasies... Men & Women are all different...
Men & Women are all different
And from the sounds of it some people seem to be more understanding than others?
I wonder if it depends on their friends and partners sexuality as well?
Perhaps they are very lucky if they and their partners are in harmony over this?
Isn't it about love of the heart for each other and never mind the rest of the world?
Or does love not enter into it?
Just an observation that's all, but if everyone felt that way and were understanding, then shopping wouldn't be a problem?
Or are we all too judgemental?

Not unless I came and had a grope lol!!
Seriously, I think people who have a big problem with cross dressers are obviously not secure in their own sexuality.
"He doth protest too much" springs to mind.
As said numerous times before, CD's/TV's are not transexuals. There is a HUGE difference. NONE of the CD's/TV's I know want gender reassignment. They just want to do what makes them happy and be themselves. What is wrong with that? I really can't see what the problem is. I guess it's just another 'hobby' really.
A question for the people who are opposed to cross dressers or think it's unnatural/wierd/perverted ..........
What do you think to 'butch' women who dress in jeans, boots etc and have shaved heads, no make up, tattoos etc and have a very masculine, often muscular look? Do you feel the same disgust towards them?

Kirky, you are entitled to your POV, but we don't like pointless abuse around here. Please don't post it.

It was abusive, and more to the point, unnecessary.
Like your Mum should have told you a long time ago: if you can't say anything nice - particularly about something that doesn't concern you - don't say anything at all.

i'm as much a lad as the next man but i am also open minded and quite liberal so i didnt have a problem with it at all (why should i??) and he was a really nice bloke too (why would he not be??)
and i've been invited out on their night out in manc too, very flattered!

I think that we all tend to judge others from how they look as opposed to getting to know the person beneath the facade that they present to others.
Perhaps before passing judgment we should take a good look in the mirror* and see what others see in us, then perhaps we would be less likely to spout off without thinking.
*I include myself in that.
SallyLaLaLa 19-11-2005, 00:22 As a five foot girly I know that Topshop and Dorothy Perkins do a 'tall' range alongside the petites I have to get.
They usually don't do such a good range of talls/petites in high st shops so it might be worth checking out Meadowhall were they have a big shop.

Comments made in a public forum invite critisism or opposing views your censorship of them is immoral and offensive. What is the point of saying a person is entitled to their point of view if you deny the oportunity of expressing it.
Perhaps it is better to nip it in the bud? You don't have to be a mind reader to see the way it could have gone.
Is it possible to let bygones be bygones and let the thread continue in the way it was meant...
As advice as to where CD/TV's can shop.?
Mod note:
People are entitled to their opinions but they are not always entitled to pointless abuse of others for their opinions. If anyone wants to discuss the rights and wrongs of cross dressing they should start a new thread with a sensible discussion.
Please get back to the original question and lay off the nonsense.
paris_tgirl 03-09-2008, 12:13 Cross dressers usually have no desire to look particularly like a woman or act like a woman.
In a nut shell, that's pretty much it.
paris_tgirl 03-09-2008, 12:16 I just sold a pair of my size 9 knee high boots (i know - i have big feet) to a bloke on ebay - fairly sure they were for him. He'd bought quite a few other boots and clothes and bits too from what I can see...
Might be worth a try!
EBay is great for buying wigs, shoes and boots etc.
Someone was telling me and I don't know if his problem is common or not, but he craved female company and he felt that by taking on the persona of a woman, it felt for him like there was a femine prescence in the house and to some extent it helped with his lonliness.
Has anyone heard of that happening?
.
Had to travel to Lakeside very understanding in Camille and Playtex,Gossard,Warner

No, I haven't heard of any TGirl mention that as a reason why she dresses. The person concerned would still be by themselves.

SisterGeorge 31-07-2010, 16:42 I use e/bay quite a lot, most of the big stores have shops on line and I use them as well, I wouldn't like to go into a shop and ask for something, Well I'd like to, but haven't got the bottle for it.
Good luck to you.
Sounds like a cracking business opportunity here for someone, there's obviously a gap in the market waiting to be filled.

SisterGeorge 01-08-2010, 06:13 There are a lot of CD shops on line - The problem with all of them is this. A pair of ladies pants from M & S - £6.00. The same pair from a shop that mentioners CD £20.00. Do they really think were going to be ripped off just because we like to wear pretty pants?

Mad, isn't it? Lucky for everyone that we live in an era of online shopping so people can buy M&S stuff online if they feel unhappy about going into the shop in person. I'm a girl but I have size 8 feet so I sometimes have trouble finding shoes to fit in high street shops (shoes seem to be becoming smaller & narrower, or is it just me?!). I've become quite partial to buying shoes from TV/CD shops & websites cos they have a much better selection and it's nice to know that if the manufacturer's sizing is on the small side, I can actually get a shoe in a size bigger, unlike in most shops where an 8 is the biggest they do!
stephsheff 02-08-2010, 07:23 many thanks for some of the ideas, ive tried out matalan and primark, i must say matalan has had some sexy undies in and some nice dresses, im a size 16 so there is a good choice in these shops, plus i take a size 8 shoe so have no problem buying ladies shoes.
girlieshop 23-10-2010, 08:59 TRANSVESTITE SHOP DAY OUT! With experienced professional female CD friendly qualified Counselling Psychologist (P.G Dip; MSc) - your dream day out! En femme or male, I can advise you on clothing, make up or any other matter you wish to discuss, or just a chat? just think of those frilly shops you would love to go into but wouldn’t DARE without a female friend. I have many CD friends, and married to 24/7 CD and naturally, I am totally at home with CD’s. email girlieshop@live.co.uk for details -go on treat yourself!
Thanks, Girlieshop, for reviving this thread; as a CD for the past 10 years myself, I can vouch for most shops around town, from the cheap and cheerful (market stalls, Primark, etc.) to the classier outlets such as Topshop, Atkinsons, etc). I have never had a problem buying from any shop, although I don't have to ask for advice about sizes. A couple of tips: TK Maxx is great for surprise discounted finds, such as glamorous dresses and large size shoes; they do ask men to always use the upstairs male dressing room even when trying ladies clothes. Also look out for discounted tights at many stores, especially in spring, but also last autumn's range is often discounted at present.
Sheffield's famous crossdressers and Transgender night, Les Femmes, is still on every Friday at Club Xes, Carlisle St. Last Friday about a dozen girls were there; even on quiet nights you will find half or dozen or so there, and most girls are willing to share fashion and styling tips. In the past Club Xes have also allowed Trangender accessories retailers to set up stalls at Les Femmes nights; I am looking at trying to revive a regular 'market' presence there, as I am working on selling affordable cosmetics and accessories like false eyelashes. If anyone else is interested in doing a stall, do PM me and I can pass your contact details on to the managers at Xes.
Recently went for a make over as a CD got strange looks from men but got a few smiles of acknowledgement frrom ladies. In fact I got complemented from the SA doing the makeover saying it was her first time making over a cross dresser and was welcome to come back. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
Dizzyblonde 16-10-2011, 16:18 Well done you, I've never had the the courage to get a makeover in a department store and I'm a straight female.
hey trans, be proud of who you are, ignore the comments from the very few narrow minded people on here, i brought my kids up to accept that everyone is different, and they know gay, bi, lesbians, cross dressers etc, and i can vouche for them that they would treat you as an equal and not strange as it is your choice to cross dress, charity shops are a good place to buy clothes from, i used to run one and a gent would come in and look at womens clothes rather shyly, so one day i asked if he was buying for himself and even advised him on what suited him, he seemed relieved to have help so good luck in finding shops to help you in your quest,
Hi you should go to evans in meadowhall youll have no problems there.x
