Nigel Womersle 18-07-2009, 00:57 I could name loads - but the one that always gets me is Absolute Beginners (from the film of the same name, in which Bowie starred) Bowie has the capability to carry so much emotion and power in his voice - other favourites of mine would be 'Wild is the Wind' and 'Sygnet Commitee' I could go on .... That's my favourite too. I never tire of playing it. quisquose 18-07-2009, 09:15 Name your favourite track He's so underrated! For me at the moment its Changes, his best album is Hunky Dory I agree, Hunky Dory is his best album. Brilliant from 1st track to last. Ousetunes 18-07-2009, 10:46 Life On Mars, probably. I love that haunting piano at the end. Vocally, I think China Girl takes some beating. It is wonderfully sung and phrased. I also like Sounds And Vision. (And Tony Thompson's drumming on his Let's Dance album is magnificent.) But I must stress, I disagree with your opinion that he is underrated. He's very well acknowledged for his contribution to the British music scene. Chris_Sleeps 18-07-2009, 11:20 He's so underrated! You joking? He's an international icon. You want him to be on the back of the pound coin? Life On Mars, probably. I love that haunting piano at the end. Bowie has the skill of being talented and working with talented people too. Looking on wikipedia Rick Wakeman played the piano on it, never knew that. It's a wonderful piece of musicianship. horribleblob 18-07-2009, 11:39 ...working with talented people... Like Mick Ronson  quisquose 18-07-2009, 12:45 ...working with talented people too... ... and Brian Eno, just as the magic was beginning to fade Low and Heroes are released. Ousetunes 18-07-2009, 14:34 How can you pick just one song? Ok then, 'Moonage Daydream', because of that guitar solo at the end.... Not familiar with this one. Who's the guitarist? andrejuan 18-07-2009, 15:46 Moonage Daydream. According to Wikipedia: Mark Carr Pritchard: Guitar Mick Ronson: Guitar I'm guessing Mick Ronson is the one with the solo. Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p79JKclG-oc) I'm adding Lady Stardust to the list, forgot how great that was. :) quisquose 18-07-2009, 20:51 If I've got to choose one, then it will have to be the track that I've told my wife to play at my funeral ... Quicksand (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP2SS8ggLtU) from Hunky Dory. deedar 19-07-2009, 05:24 Lady from another Grinning Soul. scargill 19-07-2009, 07:35 John I'm only dancing. bigheffa21 19-07-2009, 08:23 lets dance Lady Star 19-07-2009, 18:03 Oh, too many to name!!! Moonage Daydream and Candidate are two immediate faves, but then what about Rock n Roll Suicide? Hunky Dory is the best album, Queen Bitch and Life on Mars and fantastic! I've loved him since I was 2 years old and saw him on Old Grey Whistle Test - I'm in my 30's now! Not sure about the comment re being underated? He's a international rock star of gargantuan proportions, idolised by millions and the touch stone for thousands of other singer songwriters - hardly underated??? lady_angel 19-07-2009, 23:05 lets spend the night together loved that one JenC 20-07-2009, 09:27 Moonage Daydream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dE4Mu_cZcIA) has always been one of my favourites. The intro that just demands your attention, the strings that come in at the beginning of the third chorus, Mick's solo at the end... Billiant song. Other favourites: Space Oddity and Cygnet Committee (I adore the opening and the bass) from Space Oddity; The Width of a Circle and All the Madmen from The Man Who Sold The World; Life on Mars?, Quicksand and The Bewlay Brothers from Hunky Dory; Suffragette City and Starman from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars; Time, Cracked Actor and Lady Grinning Soul from Aladdin Sane. My favourite albums are The Man Who Sold The World, and in complete contrast, Hunky Dory. Also, to echo other posters' comments, I wouldn't say he's underrated at all! spookyfish 20-07-2009, 12:09 My faves are Lady Stardust (especially the demo version on the special edition of Ziggy Stardust...) and Starman. Although I definitely agree with the comments on Moonage Daydream. Ziggy's one of my favourite albums - I dread to think how many times I've bought the thing on different formats, special editions, replacements for knackered cassettes... |
