View Full Version : What is your favourite season?
Me, I like Spring the most. The weather is warming up and you have the prospect of summer ahead without the humidity or working in an office when its nice bit.
it also seems the most hopeful season with something to look forward to.
Winter is ok but I cannot be doing with icy roads or extreme cold. And I really hate Christmas and New Year.
Summer is ok but I never go on holiday and always work for companies who seem to not understand that air conditioning exists.
Autumn. Almost as good as spring. However, summer is over and all you have to look forward to is darker evenings and winter.
Where's the football season?
I'm not too fussy about the weather as long as it makes it's mind up.
If it's going to rain, rain. If it's going to snow, snow. If it's going to be windy, blow. I hate it when the bloody weather can't make it's mind up :suspect:
I like late Autumn / early Winter.
It's weird because I used to really dislike October - I would get really depressed for a month or so. But nowadays I seem OK with it and I have found I like it a lot. Especially when you start getting the change towards winter - crisp mornings with a bit of sun and the evenings starting to close in.
I even prefer the autumn / winter night sky for star gazing, and when I was a kid I was convinced that radio signals (I'm a radio amateur) were much better in the autumn / winter.

muddycoffee 16-07-2005, 23:26 Autumn.
When I was a troubesome adolescent, and the warm nights drew in, in the autumn. And we used to go garden-hopping and other stuff when it started going dark 6-7pm.
Even now, a couple of decades later, I still get that buzz and feel the exciting thrill of autumn.
BorisMarakas 17-07-2005, 00:23 Autumn is the best as you can go into the park sweep some leaves up and make leaf angels, you know kinda like snow angels.:loopy:
Kristian 17-07-2005, 00:31 I voted Autumn because it's just really beautiful.
When I think about a typical day in the English countryside for each season, I have to say they're all beautiful.
I'm so glad I live in a country where there are 'proper' seasons unlike many warmer climates.

When I was younger, I used to get on a low when the nights started to draw in.
I have found that my appreciation of the seasons has changed as I've grown up. I love them each in a different way now. I found answering that question difficult. Like, "which is your favourite child?"
But I went for Summer, mainly because I spend a lot of days in the summer happy:
I love the sun.
I love wearing less clothes.
I love having a tan.
I love seeing lots of other people wearing less clothes:hihi:
I love the fact that for about a month, it never truly gets dark.
I love sitting outside with a glass of wine watching the swifts swoop for the insects.
I love going into work on the hottest day of the year and realising that even your boss can't really be that bothered on that day.
I love sleeping with all the windows open and still being too hot.
I love having an ice cream because it's hot (not because you're greedy)
I love sitting outside and realising that it's the third glass of wine, it's gone dark, the swifts have gone to bed, the bats are swooping for insects, and the horizon is still light.
Summer: I love it.
Also late September, with the nights starting to come more quickly, the shadows longer, the days cooler, and the leaves starting to turn, you cannot help but have a major "back to school" Flashback, no matter what your age. Surely I'm not alone on that one?
rothschild 17-07-2005, 01:13 Oh eck........I will break out into poetry in a minute........my favourite is Spring because of all the new smells of the earth wakening up......and the soft green shoots springing up all over......and the dew of an early morning.....and the mists and cobwebs and the nip in the air......and the warming up as the day goes on.
My favourite is also Summer because everything has turned from a willowy youth into a full blown beauty. The garden is alive and very much demanding to be noticed. Suddenly we are faced with in your face colours all over the place......strong growth which is singing in your ears. The birds the butterfly's the slugs and snails and indeed every little beastie is in full production. The whole place is buzzing with re-newed vitality. The ground smells different...........and when it rains that smells different as well.......it is fresh and vibrant. Summer is strong.......it is also a time to get those batteries charged in readiness for the Autumn.
Autumn........well you guessed it..........my favourite. Oh the rich colours of autumn are a treasure trove to behold. Time to reap what we have sown. A time of fruitfullness and pleasure. The golden evenings when the sun sinks fast and the heat has gone out of the day yet still a good time of year. Natures larder where all the little animals are very busy storing up their stocks of food for the winter months ahead. Conkers........how I love conkers and their beautiful shiny skins. The autumn air is so clean and fresh.........and woodland walks are wonderful at this time of the year.
Winter........I hate it!! Cold wet days which seem to go on for ever! Everything looks so drab and dead! Snow and frost and ice! YUK. Dark mornings and dark evenings........in fact does it ever get light? Everybody has a cold or flu or something and the only highlight throughout these miserable months is xmas and the new year. In fact I can normally cope with the bleak months until after the New Year. Once the festivities are out of the way I would happily hibernate until the first signs of spring.
DragonofAna 17-07-2005, 08:24 Winter. Cold. Wet. Leaves are gone from the trees. Weeds are dead. Nights are longer.
Less trouble on the streets. Fewer drunks out in the pouring rain. More care taken by drivers. Christmas on its way or having just past.
Working towards a new year and the promises it brings.
Mostly - cos its winter in my heart.

Too True! :( I remember the snow being much deeped when I was a kid. Maybe I was just a lot shorter as a toddler! ;)
DragonofAna 17-07-2005, 10:59 Let me have two minutes being a little bit picky here. Please indulge me.
Peter41 - hot heat???
Kristian - being much deeped???
Is this some sort of code I do not get?
Only joking. Please do not take this post seriously. Just reads funny is all - well, it does to me.

SpiderPete 17-07-2005, 11:03 Its the heat that makes you spell funny...
I can remember the snow being taller than me... yes those were the days.
mikeyspikey 01-10-2005, 18:03 what would you say is your favourite time of the year and why?
As with the song Camelot, each season brings something special.
If I had to choose, it would be May.
Spring is well established, early summer promises much.
Snowbird 01-10-2005, 18:45 It has to be spring. I love April. golden daffodils, birds singing and nest building, leaves budding on the trees and the days getting longer. The world seems full of hope and promise of new beginnings
karenjane39 01-10-2005, 18:48 I really love each season but my favourite is Autumn. Cosy evenings, lovely colours on the trees before the leaves fall, then the promise of winter and CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!:)
I love the Autumn..........the only down side of it is that Christmas is getting ever closer :(

Agreed spring is my fav too.
Smell of fresh cut grass as the dawn of the new summer season approaches. Fresh crisp morning air and birds singing... jees I sound like a chick.
Where's my beer?
Lickable 01-10-2005, 19:42 October, but a dry and sunny one. I love the temprature and the slight autumness it brings

mikeyspikey 01-10-2005, 20:01 actually my thread wasnt based on seasons!---time covers other things like birthdays, xmas, holidays, meetings, reunions etc.
shouldnt really be merged!
honeybee 01-10-2005, 20:19 It has to be winter.
Love the snow just wish we had more of it. Think its rather romantic wandering in the snow and then coming in and snuggling up infront of a warm fire with someone you love. Nothing better in my opinion.
BexBowden 04-10-2005, 08:59 Deffinatley winter :D
