Day trip to somewhere in the Peak District? Easy bus ride or train journey if you don't drive. You can go for a walk, see some caves, get a pub lunch and buy some fudge......bliss!

meadowhall is gud option...but we had been there for twice....
Chesterfield, nice little market town, worldfamous Crooked Spire church.
Buxton, there are some interesting caves there with stalactites.
Day trip to Filey or Whitby if you fancy the coast
Day out in York, some great museums there and the Minster which is stunning.
castelton.. great day out & lovely ice creams!
Flanborough cliffs, Near Bridlington.
Spend a day in castleton then come back to sheffield via monsal head for a nice view and yet another icecream (if the van hasn't packed up for the night)
.....more fun via bike though ;)

Bakewell is nice for a day trip, so is Cawthorn and Cannon Hall, Lotherton Hall near Leeds is good too. Cleethorpes is the nearest seaside, only 1 hr 15mins away by car, or with a train straight to the seafront (although I think that line is under repair over the summer and has been replaced by a bus).
For longer days out, you can get to Retford, there is a nice Wildfowl and wildlife centre at Sutton cum Lound, Boston in Lincolnshire is good on a market day, Manchester is worth a look too.
If you have a car, why not just drive an hour in a random direction and see where you end up? I like to do that sometimes and have found some real gems I would never have thought of visiting :)
