View Full Version : Whats the worst gig you've ever attended?
superblade1! 13-07-2009, 11:48 Coming from mine and the other guys thread about best gigs. Here is one for the bad ones..
The worst one for me would have to be Iron Maiden at the arena a few years ago. They played too many new songs, diddn't play many of the classics and generally thought the sound quality was rubbish.
paranoid 13-07-2009, 12:36 on the 2006 tour? matter of life and death?
NEKRO138 13-07-2009, 12:57 Didn't specifically go their gigs but the worst bands I've seen live were Kings of Leon, Razorlight and Killers. So very dull.
perplexed 13-07-2009, 13:13 The Beautiful South at Crystal Palace. They turned up, and obviously couldn't be bothered. And it showed...
cheesemaster 13-07-2009, 14:01 not gig but support act, hot legs justin goofy fk hawkins new group, ugggh prancing around in his orange trainers and spikey ball crotch guard thing, simulating a 3way guitar gang bang sticking his tongue out.....
9 goddam song support act, after 1st song i turned my back to the prat and watch crowd until they left.
Silverbear 13-07-2009, 14:14 Acoustic Angels a few New Years' ago at the Boardwalk.
Up their own a***s & about a quarter as good as they thought they were.
Walked out half way through.
foxy lady 13-07-2009, 14:29 A band called Rubber Room at a church hall near Shrewsbury around about 2002/2003. The audience might have been as high as 17 at one point even though it was free entry. They played a load of Hendrix covers. The girl playing lead guitar and violin fortunately left the band to go to Sheffield University, and mercifully they split up.
Funky_Gibbon 13-07-2009, 14:40 Worst I've been to was Smashing Pumpkins at the Manchester Arena last year. The set list wasn't brilliant, there was a 30 minute medley of cover songs and new instrumentals and that seemed to bore everyone. But that's not what made it the worst. What made it the worst was the sound system. All you could hear was bass guitar and drums, the vocals were hard to make out and there were entire guitar solos I couldn't hear at all. I won't be going back there again.
Second worst was a Toby Jepson gig 7 years ago. Great gig but I was stood right next to the speakers and almost fainted from the noise.
MuteWitness 13-07-2009, 15:19 Marilyn Manson at Download fest this year...he was clearly too out of it to care. I didn't go just to see him...good job!
Goldfinger, supporting Reel Big Fish in about 2003/4 at the Octagon.
Wasn't a massive fan of theirs anyway, only really knowing them from what I had heard in video games, but they spent far too long harping on about veganism and vivisection and not enough time playing their average-sounding punk songs.
In the space of about 50 minutes I went from mostly apathy to actually despising them.
And for that matter, I seem to recall RBF sucking that night anyway.

yep...rubbish!

A bad Maiden gig? You are jesting? No, really, you are, aren't you?
Anyway, there have been so many disappointing gigs I've been at it's hard to single one out, but two which spring to mind are Bon Jovi at Huddersfield, though that was partly our own fault, as we'd got there early for a few beers round the tow.
Everywhere we went was playing Bon Damn Jovi on the jukebox aaaaaaaalllllllll the time, and so by the time they came on stage we were so sick of hearing them, we couldn't enjoy it. The gig was almost certainly brilliant, but we'd heard the entire set about four times before that day.
Another was OK Go a few years ago at the Leadmill. Turgid and dull, we left after about four tracks.
The Pogues, Dublin 1985. The sound was completely muffled, and some of them were so drunk they could hardly stand up, never mind play an instrument.
anarchist 13-07-2009, 16:35 The Pogues, Dublin 1985. ..., and some of them were so drunk they could hardly stand up, never mind play an instrument.
I thought that was the whole point with the Pogues.
anarchist 13-07-2009, 16:35 They played a load of Hendrix covers. .
Did they play Foxy Lady by any chance?
swordfish1 13-07-2009, 17:54 Travis, Octagon can't remember the year and I don't really care. Only went cos the other half wanted to go, and I wanted to show my caring side. I walked out halfway thro cos I couldn't stand the mind numbing tedium anymore.
I didn't get any that night.

No i'm not kidding. I thought it was generally crap and the biggest waist of 40 quid in the world!
EdnaKrabappe 13-07-2009, 19:15 A David Bowie gig at the arena where he played a brand new album that hadn't leaked on the net (too early for this really) and Morrisey had cancelled on him. There was no atmosphere, you could see the tension on fans faces and i was really disappointed. You could almost feel the pressure release when he finally played in the encore Under pressure, the only time he played stuff people already knew. .
reditiger 13-07-2009, 20:10 Marilyn Manson at Download fest this year...he was clearly too out of it to care. I didn't go just to see him...good job!
Totally agree, he was awful
not wanted 13-07-2009, 20:45 Flaming Lips at the City Hall 4 or 5 years ago.
I've really got no idea why I went and I've regretted it to this day. 10 minutes of trying to get an inflatable ball onto the balcony and singing happy birthday to people in the crowd does not count as entertainment to me.
Dreadful from beginning to end
horribleblob 13-07-2009, 21:09 Bob Dylan @ Earls Court.
The Pogues, Dublin 1985. The sound was completely muffled, and some of them were so drunk they could hardly stand up, never mind play an instrument.
Mid 80's drunken Pogues were fantastic, even if you did need a little patience.
I've seen some absolute rubbish in my time. The standout bad gigs were Killing Joke in Leeds in 85. Just a noise and nothing else. Everything But The Girl were possibly the most unanimated and dull couple I've ever seen... and I know some dull couples:)

I love the Pogues, but they did do the worst gig I've ever seen.

They're a very unpredictable band but very good when on form.
samesame monkey 15-07-2009, 09:23 Public Enemy at plug, I was really looking forward to it, and the sound was utterly terrible, then we had to listen to about half an hour of Flavor Flav's new album, which I haven't purchased :/
paranoid 15-07-2009, 10:13 No i'm not kidding. I thought it was generally crap and the biggest waist of 40 quid in the world!
i went to that gig and i thought it was pretty good. maiden always put on a good show :headbang:
they didn't play all of their classics, but the tour was to promote a new album
PuressenceUK 15-07-2009, 10:28 Britney Spears as a birthday treat for an ex. 2 hours of turgid miming and rubbish choreography. Some of the backing singers were cute though.
Treatment 15-07-2009, 10:44 Eric Clapton with Delaney and Bonny, City Hall about 1971.
Total crap.
BasilRathbon 15-07-2009, 11:10 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Salzburg Bier Keller, 1788. Absolute rubbish; the band had completely forgotten that electricity hadn't yet been invented so they ended up doing an impromptu acoustic set.
horribleblob 15-07-2009, 12:05 I have the cd. Cosė fan tutte unplugged is the standout track.
Totally agree about the Acoustic Angels. They really like themselves,,,,a lot.
Went to see The Who in the early 70's. They were so contrived. Townsend swapped his guitar for a cheap copy before getting 'carried away with the music' and smashing it into an empty speaker cabinet. Entwistle was a god though!

now i'm jeolous! :o
i'd love to have seen moon the loon play
flamingjimmy 15-07-2009, 15:10 Incubus at the MEN
They weren't particularly bad, it was a very average performance. What made it the worst gig ever was how dissappointed I was when they weren't amazing and also being hit on by some dirty old man, I was only about 17 at the time! And I'm not even gay!
Other than that one of my friends bands when she was really really drunk (especially not helpful when you're the singer and only guitarist, nothing to cover your mistakes!)
Spaulding 18-07-2009, 03:31 Probably Lost Prophets at the Academy last year.
What a load of cobblers!!

Couldn't agree more...terrible gig.
Audioslave at the Verison Wireless Centre in Indianapolis. very poor sound quality. On the flip side we went to a bar "The slippery noodle inn" and watched a band fronted by a 60yr old female Black lead guitarist...I'm tempted to get back on a plane just for the pleasure of seeing her again.
