Yesterday I finished my first ever 10K run (for Weston Park Hospital) in 46 minutes, which I was very chuffed with.

Apart from the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run in September, which I am entering in the next few weeks, are there any other events in and around Sheffield of a similar distance?

Or would I need to join a running club to get more opportunities?

I was at Weston Park yesterday as well. What was your race number? I may have a piccy somewhere

I've started training for that. Its a long way off but I've started from one rung below slob on the fitness scale. I must do it in less that an hour or i won't be happy. If you want to do the Percy pud, look out for applications soon. Its ridiculously over subscribed.

I am starting training this week. If everything goes to plan it will be the fourth year in a row that I have run it. I haven't done much running since last years race so I expect the training will be harder this year.

Great time for your first run - it was hard and definitely not a PB course.

Runners World website has details of all races that you can search for.

Sheffield Running Club post on here, and if you become a member, you have all races e-mailed to you, and you can choose which ones to enter.

These range from 5k's to half marathons and cross country races.

They train Tuesdays and Thursdays from Don Valley. Based on your time for yesterdays 10k, you would be in the Intermediate to top group.

Well run!

I always get a little bit envious when I read of other runners because I've mainly had to give running up due to knackered knees. My right knee could 'lock' at any given moment and I'd hate to be up on Redmires when it did so, so I don't venture very far these days.

Runner's World magazine lists all forthcoming events and is also a superb read, helping runners with kit, training advice and dietary tips too. I recently (well, some years back) did a 5k run in York and (despite knowing York as well as my home town) RW helped with directions, starting time and all the other stuff. Despite not getting out like I used to, I managed the run in 25 minutes (IIRC) and was pretty content with that (it being only 3.1 miles and flat to boot).

I used to train on a 6.7 mile block running from my parents' house in Nethergreen along Fulwood Road, up Manchester Road, through Crosspool, along Redmires Road to Blackbrook Road and back through Fulwood village. Incredibly, I got my time down to 44 minutes. What I'd give to be that healthy these days!

Enjoy your running; it's the best hobby one can find.

Yes that was a very respectable time. I did percy pud in 57 mins. I`ve also entered the sheffield 10k in september. I`d love a quicker time but as i`m at the latter end of my 40`s and one knee is on it`s way out, i`m not building my hopes up. It`s right though, if you want to know about races join a club as you get discounts on race entrys. A nice small club is valley hill runners based at high green.

I've sent you a pm back. I do have a photo of you. The batteries needed changing just after I took it, but don't worry it was nothing to do with you :hihi:

Top time. Well done. As for a club, why not try out Sheffield Running Club (you'll have already met a few members as we were in yellow marshalls vests cheering you on.

We meet at Don Valley on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm all kinds of ability and loads of advice from coach Dave Oldfield- ex sprinter turned marathon runner. Dave takes out a group focussing on 10k / half marathon training as well as a marathon group, so there's lots of options for you. We also organise longer, more social weekend runs in various parts of the city.
Whatever club you join just keep an enjoying your running.
cheers
