View Full Version : What was the best gig you ever attended?
foxy lady 12-07-2009, 16:03 What was the best gig you ever attended?
I have been to many brilliant gigs over the years. One of the best was the Thin Lizzy 20/20 at the City Hall. Sykes and Gorham were awesome on guitar. However I saw R.E.M at the arena the year before and they totally blew me away. I was not even a fan but went along with the new boyfriend to show willing.
I was well and truly hooked. It was such a polished performance. Utterly superb.
Fibutton 12-07-2009, 17:36 All of Mr Springsteen's gigs have been mindblowing.....just so sad i wasn't at Glastonbury !
JFKvsNixon 12-07-2009, 18:47 The Manic's at Leed's festival last year, in the NME tent. It was awesome to watch them close the festival in a smallish intimate atmosphere.
Iron Maiden and ACDC have both blown me away more than any other band
the_rudeboy 12-07-2009, 19:27 We been here (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=493050) only very recently.

I'd LOVE to go to one of his gigs ... all the YouTube clips I've seen the man has looked amazing.
Billy Bragg has been the best one for me. I'm officially Keeping Faith now.

superblade1! 13-07-2009, 11:45 By a very very very very long way, AC/DC at Birmingham this year. They were beyond brilliant, the energy of all the band was immence and that is the highlight of my life so far......:D
Rolling Stones were good, Tina Turner was brilliant, Def leppard are allways superb and i thought alice cooper put on a good show.
MJ in Sheffield at Don Valley (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=492400)
purple_frog 13-07-2009, 11:58 Lemon Jelly in tent at the Electric Picnic festival in Ireland years ago - I could've die happy that night, twas almost spiritual!
jazzamatazz 13-07-2009, 12:01 Bootsy Collins and his Rubber Band The Grand in clapham about 12 years ago:D
Rocklegend 13-07-2009, 16:29 Stones- Don Valley 95
Muse- Arena 07.
The Smiths (filmed for The Old Grey Whistle test on the Road in ?'85) at the Assembly Rooms in Derby. I only new a couple of the songs, but it was like nothing I'd seen or heard before. They threw masses of gladioli down from the balcony at the climax of the show.....
Billy Bragg at City Hall a couple of years back. Outstanding performance.
Billy Braggs a Gob***** and the smiths are a bunch of melancholic morons.. Went to see Hawkwind at Treworgy trefest and they were ace.... Talented musicians that make people move not think "oh my god lifes crap" ;)
sheffield_uk 13-07-2009, 18:09 Aerosmith..in..TEL AVIV 1994
quite funny when half of the crowd had guns :suspect:

Radiohead at Glastonbury in 1997 stands head and shoulders above any other gig I've been to before or since.
Was that the year they played the Pyramid song on the Pyramid stage? If it is, I remember watching that on the beeb and thinking "my god, what it'd be like to be there"
On that same token, Radiohead at Manchester Cricket ground last year was by far the best gig I've ever been to. Most of the new album In rainbows played and quite a few old classics from other albums. The feeling when the band just finished playing Karma Police and the band we're fiddling / setting up for the next song and the entire crowd just started singing the chorus at the band, over and over, getting louder and louder and seeing Thom just smirk at us while he was tinkering. Still sends shivvers down me spine just thinking back to it.
alternageek 18-07-2009, 16:58 Best? nine inch nails.
Mind blowing. Saw them in London this week and before that it was 14 yrs ago. A complete and total experience. First time I saw them PWEI opened and this time Gary Numan performed with them on 2 songs (Cars & Metal) Loved it. So sad theyre taking an extended break :(

Prince and the New Power Generation at the Arena.
Gawd! Almost 20 years ago! :0
small_hall 12-10-2009, 13:53 take that - the circus tour. I saw them at Lancashire cricket club

mine has to be the rolling stones at don valley, or maybe AC/DC at the arena??
Alice cooper was excellent and marilyn manson!!
Nataliie 14-10-2009, 20:41 Slipknot, it was amazing!!!!!!
melthebell 14-10-2009, 21:06 Faithless at glastonbury (one of the best live acts, the songs change so much, they also get heavier and funkier)
orbital glastonbury (i think it was 94?) the whole crowd was electric
gong at sheffield octagon too........that was well trippy
metallica sheff city hall (justice for all tour.....88?)
beastie boys / run dmc..........in about 1987 (beasties were on the license to ill tour with the inflatable penises, beer cans and women in cages)
mine has to be t rex at the city hall in the early 70s. marc bolan was my hero and to be on the front row was just too much for a 16 year old to take lol.i even caught his tambourine when he threw it into the audience.this was my prize possession for many years until it mysteriously disappeared, hmmmmmmm methinks my younger brother had something to do with this!.
other very close contenders are u2 on their achtung baby tour and springsteen at bramall lane
steelerman 15-10-2009, 09:27 Neil diamond at sheffield arena a few years ago, sensational
You get to see so many at festivals, but in no particualr order (all at Leeds fest and sorry for innacurate years!):
Marilyn Manson - what an awesome performance (01?)
Manics (02?)

was an awesome gig the atmosphere was mental!:)
shazzamattazza 16-10-2009, 12:09 Happened to be in Paris in mid eighties and saw that Talking Heads supported by Tom Tom Club were playing, what an awesome gig. Despite being heavily pregnant Tina Weymouth who was in both bands was totally amazing.
elvira666 17-10-2009, 09:36 alice cooper all his gigs are great puts on a proper show
bigsexydoug 17-10-2009, 10:34 saw prodigy at brixton academy about 92-93 when they had had a few hits, it was an all nighter and the chemical bros were playing too, it was fantastic to see them both in thier prime, so much energy it was emense.
also seen raqdiohead at bridlington and thom yorke got so emotional he started crying whilst singing it was something only the people there will remember for the meaning of it. but something i will never forget.
best ive seen just for quality would have to be the stereophonics at the arena, they didnt put a foot wrong all night, every song was perfection
CalamityKate 18-10-2009, 16:50 Highway Child at The Crown, Sheffield. But dont worry, if you missed them at their intimate venue, they are playing LIVE and FREE at The Norfolk Arms on Thursday 22nd Oct..... more room, great food and a night not to be missed! www.norfolkarms.com/events.php
Cliff and The Shadows were at the Arena last Wednesday the 14th October. A sell out so there was another show the next night. A great two and a half hours worth. Couldn't fault it. Probably for the over 50's though.

Why don't you post in the correct area if you are clearly advertising, your not helping the band!
Reuben, on the tiny downstairs stage inside a crammed Casbah, not long after they'd released their very first album, sometime in 2004. Unreal - end of.
satismaster 19-10-2009, 17:32 Foo Fighters @ the Telewest Arena in Newcastle, absolutly blinding!
DW, I'm a Ruben fan too, how ****ing awesome are they!
