I'd like to say United for automatic promotion, but it's too early to say. There are always surprises in the league, and you never know who will get injured...

apart from this being a sheffied forum.....what is the justification for puttin united ontop?

last season did they show signs of a team improving and ready to dominate? have they signed a few class players to improve?

southampton to walk it i think.

In the Top 6 (in no particular order): Norwich, Sheff United, Wolves, Ipswich, Reading, Preston

Bottom 3: Difficult to predict, but I would guess it will be 3 of these teams..... Crewe, Luton, Sheff Wed, Watford, Brighton, or maybe even Derby if Iziak goes!

I too fancy Southampton providing Harry Redknapp remains at the helm. If he goes, and what with the Clive Woodward situation, then that would upset the Saints' apple-cart.

Wolves will be up there, as will Norwich and Palace. I also feel, regrettably, that Le*ds will have a good season. They've made some impressive signings, but is Warnock's old Number 2 up to the job? Also, off-field speculation might have an effect (ownership) but I still rate them enough for a play-off spot.

I doubt Ipwich will be as strong as they have been (although, ofcause they'll still do the double over us). Derby could be a surprise package provding they hang onto Rasiak and the other midfielder. Good manager too.

Hull to start bright and fade, and Wendy to do likewise, but both to secure Championship footie by March 2006.

As for the drop, perm any from Burnley, Plymouth, Luton, Crewe, Cardiff and Brighton.

As for the Blades.....

For what its worth, this is my opinion although I'm not good at predicting final positions (as my play off predictions proved!).

Up there or there abouts will be Wolves, Palace, Southampton (as long as Rednapp stays in charge). United will again be there or there abouts. Without doubt they are a better side than last year but I am not convinced about their depth.

Ipswich have dismantled a side and put another one together again. Last season they were the outstanding side for me and I do not think they will be as good again this season. Top six at best but I think lower.

I didn't think Norwich were a good side two years ago and nothing last season did anything to alter that position. Huckerby is two years old than when they last went up and if they still have the "losing culture" from last season then I think they too may be looking mid table.

Everyone is forcasting Leeds to be strong but I'm not sure. They have bought a lot of experience but really do lack pace in the critical positions and as United proved a lot last season, without pace in the important areas in this division you will be behind the pack.

At the bottom, Brighton will struggle but they have made a couple of decent signings so I don't think they will be as adrift as some predict. Crewe have made some interesting signings this summer and may manage mid table. Cardiff are in disarray but have a half decent manager who may be able to perform miracles. Watford will also struggle having lost their best players and not replaced with a very inexperienced manager at the helm. Stoke are a total mess and may be fighting Brighton for bottom spot.

Plymouth will mix good and bad as of last season.

For the promoted boys? Hull will probably finish mid table as they have the clout. For Luton and Wednesday I think a long hard winter is ahead of them. I've said it all summer and they done nothing to alter my opinion. Wednesday have not strengthened - the players they have bought are much of a muchness. Their latest "find" couldn't cut it with Bournemouth only last season. Sturrock has never managed at this level and this division if different from any other. Fortunately, Stoke will be accounting for one of the relegation spots so if Sturrock and keep them out of the other two, he will have indeed performed miracles.

sounds like we have some very intelligent and well rounded individuals in this forum, but then perhaps i'm biased!

I never pick full league predictions - i don't think i put enough effort into the bottom half to justify it, but i would say the top two will be from:

Norwich, Southampton, Palace, Wolves or Derby.

One of: Sheffield Utd, Reading, Leeds probably for the final play off spot after that.

I don't think anyone will walk it this year.

Another season for United out of the top 6(Warnock to go). Wednesday to just finish one place above relegation putting up a real battle in the last few weeks to stop up. Ipswich, Palace and Preston for the three promotion spots
