What can I do to transform thin legs into bridge cables? Apart from weights, is cycling or running more effective as a supplement to squats etc?

Hallamton 11-07-2009, 20:58 Cycling is great, especially if you increase resistance during a ride. It depends what you're trying to go for anyway - I often worked on stamina but also explosive power for certain sports I played. GrannyGranny 13-07-2009, 15:32 Definately cycling and especially in Sheffield with the hills. I noticed the difference after increasing my cycling and decreasing my running a few years ago within a few weeks. Running might be better for the calves though, cycling for upper legs. chem1st 13-07-2009, 16:43 If you cycle a lot though you'll struggle to run. Best of doing a bit of both, and don't push too hard when starting. jl-heating 13-07-2009, 16:56 definately not cycling/running for big legs .. !!!!!! dead lifting, heavy squating, hypers and leg extensions. go heavy 8 reps and max out ... you need to be near on physically sick to improve and put size on your legs they are a massive muscle group. any cardio will do nothing for size and will actually reduce the size of the muscle group. work on the core muscles for added mobility also important increase carbs in the diet. chem1st 13-07-2009, 17:12 My legs got massive after cycling 10 miles a day for a month round Sheffield, they still got bigger after that but not by as much as they had in the first month. jl-heating 13-07-2009, 17:28 the first few weeks are muscle memory, if i went back to the gym i would grow quickly over the first 4 weeks then stabilize due to capilary growth, when you cycle for long lengths you work on the fast twitch muscles for stamina etc .. for size you need to work on the slow twitch muscles. remember though its virtually impossible to pin point 1 muscle group, i would recomend a full body work out over 3 times a week using the push and pull system. with a little running/cycling etc 1 morning a week . geocol 14-07-2009, 10:43 Two good ways to build up leg strength , especially after a fracture, a) Hop on it from one end of a gym to another; and then increase distance and speed b) With a limited amount of extra weight on gthe shoulders, stand against a wall and gradually push up to stand on the balls of your feet , then times 10, 20 and build up and increase the weight. Coupled with running and turning, you will start to achieve what you are aiming for. |
