Don , mind if I shift the emphasis a little,
On this Day in the future , 16th. July
------------------------------------------------

2007 ] King Anthony is crowned at Westminster and vows to stamp out poverty in South America and Greenland.
Cherie Blair becomes Princess Consort and announces she will consort with any organisation who is willing to pay a , "reasonable " fee.

2008 ] Sir John Prescott is appointed Minister for Culture. He promises to turn Hull into , "the Paris o' t' North " within 10 years.
" We will be going to witness and so be it a big , in fact a far from little enough change in Hull and other majority connuberations in the North of England. Make any mistakes about this , this government means businesses. The big successes and even excesses with that Dome thing prove that. We are there for the Great British Pubics "

2009 ] The Conservatives appoint their 35th. leader since 2000. He is Sir Wilberforce Thystleton-Twysst and his plan is to bring back true values to Britain--------legalised dope dealing , 24 hour boozing and gambling and unlimited advertising everywhere and anywhere.
" These are the things our Grandfathers fought the Hun for
and we must never forget it , " he announced to a crowd of 4 people at a meeting in Eastbourne today.

Fareast - a very witty and intelligent post. You're not Jeremiah in disguise are you?

But you make some omissions.

Firstly, by 2007 the Prime Minister will be Alistair Campbell. You correctly predict Cherie Blair will give us her two pen'orth for a reasonable fee. She will also be sharing the Festive Season's top billing at Blackpool Winter Gardens alongside Peter Kay. 'The new Hinge and Bracket' cries the Blackpool Echo.

Cherie's new single 'Do you know the way to San Jose' will be release on K-tell alongside a video featuring Lady Davina McCall. The b-side is a narration from ex-prime minister Tony Blair himself entitled 'Now, hey, look, c'mon'.

2008 - I love the prospect of Hull being the Paris of the North as both cities have their interests. Paris, has the Eiffel Tower and men with onions strung around their necks but unfortunately suffers from being French. Hull, on the other hand boasts a bridge to nowhere and the M180. Class.

In nearby Wetwang, the honorary mayoress is now Carol 'look-I-can-add-up-really-quick-without-a-calculator Vorderman. She is now joined on Countdown by the very same Sir John Prescott who you mention - he's now in Dictionary Corner. The programme has been extended to three hours duration while Mr Prescott checks if 'anvil' is indeed a proper word.

2009 - My crystal ball tells me that the Queen will pass away in this year. As the nation will be in mourning, the script writers of Eastenders are working overtime to find something even more depressing. A dead, rotting Dirty Den makes an appearance in the Queen Vic with the words:

'Hello Princess, drinks on the aaaaaasssss'.

Pat Butcher comes 'out of the closet', drops her pinny and confesses 'I'm being frank, Frank, I'm a fella'. The nation is torn to bits at this news and a campaign is run in The Sun asking readers to vote whether Pat should go back to being a good looking woman again.

The number is a premium rate one but all entrants can win a day at the Houses of Parliament where they will be informed where to place their terrorist bombs should they wish to.

Finally, one important omission - Labour has decided to put a tax on tax, because tax is a taxable tax.

In 1945, the atomic bomb was tested in the desert of New Mexico (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4641861.stm).

Asked for his first thought after the test, scientist J Robert Oppenheimer quoted from his favourite Hindu poem, The Bhagavad-Gita: "I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."
