View Full Version : Coin/stone in washer. Is it serious?

For the last month I have been listening to my washing machine grate and clank on the spin cycle as either a stone or coin grinds its way around.

I can't get to it and I know that it can't be doing the machine any good but while it continues to work I've been tempted to leave it.

It costs so much to get a repair man out and the washer is over 5 years old so am risking it.

Will the coin just continue to rattle around/will it blow up/will it carry on working as normal?????

Any advice would be appreciated.

Well thanks you lot, you were absolutely useless :D

I got the repair maon out (Twice) for things stuck in the pump. A couple of weeks later the door is stuck closed which my husband has to keep taking the top off to release the catch and the machine has stopped spinning today.

Should I let the machine R.I.P. It's in good nick and looks brand new.

I don't know the life expectancy of a washing machine. Mine is 5 years old and does about 12 loads per week.

Get a new one. Five years is a good run, if it cost you £300 then you have spent a pound a week on it. It's like an old car, when it starts going wrong then it's downhill after that. Treat yourself in the sales!

My owd Mam was still using her first washer (http://www.gtj.org.uk/storage/Components/305/30582_1.JPG) till the day she departed her mortal coil.

Are you sure it's a loose foreign object? It sounds more like something broke off inside it and is rattling around. Either way, whatever it is should definitely be removed.
