I'm getting a bit sick of being stopped by these people on Fargate. One stopped me today and got really stroppy when I refused to donate any money. I wouldn't mind but it's the third time the same person has stopped me and each time he has been collecting for a different charity!
Henry V111 .
Why don't you say ,
"Look here , pal , if you had 6 f*****g ex-wives to support , YOU wouldn't have any b****y money for charities ".
Tell him your name .

The St Lukes hospice guy in Orchard Sq I think is actually a volunteer. He's never pushy and is very nice.

This is a topic that appears very often and the density of collectors would appear to annoy a large number of people.
I believe that their excessive presence may contravene the "aims" of the City Centre Management Team, which can be seen here:
http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/index.asp?pgid=29079
If anyone really wants to try and have something done about this percieved problem, they should write to:
The City Centre Manager
Sheffield City Council
City Centre Management Team
2nd Floor, Yorkshire House, 66 Leopold Street
Sheffield, S1 3RT
and I recommend that the letter should be copied to one of your local councillors.

if the money people give to them actuallywent to the charity then i would probably give a bit but when they pocket most of it i've stoppedit. this information was on the internet a while ago about the money either not going to the charity at all or very little. its so wrong
whilst at uni in Hull some of my mates worked for a lung cancer charity. They kept a 1/4 of the money, the person running it kept 1/2 and the other 1/4 went to the charity.
I got a mouthful of abuse from one of these people when I said I wouldn't contribute. He was collecting for a cancer charity - I already donate to one regularly and cannot afford any more. He suggested I cancel my existing charity contribution and sign up with him instead.
If you think the Charity "beggars" are bad, how about all those feckin' Market researchers! I mean WTF?! :loopy:

I regularly shake a tin on Fargate in aid of Sheffield Cats Shelter and can assure you that every penny goes towards the running of the shelter and the nurture of the cats.
If you are being troubled by collectors and doubt their authenticity then simply ask to see their licence.
Do not believe that rubbish about no money going to the charities, that has been covered on previous threads and proved to be urban myths.
