View Full Version : Hamster found in Crookes
Podium_K2 07-07-2009, 18:22 Hello, I got home from work about half an hour ago and found a hamster outside my house on Bolehill Lane! If you have lost a hamster please let me know so we can reunite him.
If you haven't lost a hamster but have a cage I could borrow and live in Crookes or nearby, please please let me know as I don't have anything to keep him in!
Thanks
Podium, I can loan you a cage if you need it but will need it back as it's where I put my hams when I'm cleaning them out and can't watch them!
I'm in Crookesmoor and would be preferable if you could collect as I've just got home drenched from a walk!
Podium_K2 07-07-2009, 18:33 I've pm'd you!

charlie10 07-07-2009, 19:36 Hi i dont have a cage but could give you some bedding & food etc if you need it :)
Podium_K2 07-07-2009, 20:12 Hi Charlie,
Thank you, we might take you up on that tomorrow or thur if we haven't found his owner. I have borrowed a cage from lotti which is fab, and she's given us enough food for him for a bit. I have hastily shredded some paper to make into bedding and he seems very happy now. In fact I have never seen pouches so full - thanks again Lotti!
charlie10 07-07-2009, 20:18 hi, no probs, my hammy has more than enough to spare. Hope the little fella finds his proper home soon.
mummysaz21 07-07-2009, 20:33 what a strange type of stray lol
If you need a foster home or a forever home we rescue hamster regularly
please feel free to pm me but you must be able to drop him off as I don't drive.
kitty123 07-07-2009, 20:39 I have a rat cage if you haven't sorted anything out and live nearby wot a strange one.....a stray hammy:o
Podium_K2 07-07-2009, 20:46 Thank you everybody, we've knocked on loads of doors and people have mainly looked at us strangely!! We will make some posters and put them up tomorrow, our neighbour said hers once went 3 streets before someone found it! Kitty, we need to give the cage we've borrowed from Lotti back in a couple of days so if we still have him your cage would be great. I think we'll keep him for a week and if no-one has claimed him we'll consider keeping him or finding him a nice home.
When I lived in Wakefield we found on , he was covered in much , I think he had been buried as his owners thought he had died! he went on to live another 9 months before passing away.
Podium_K2 09-07-2009, 18:55 Woah I think that beats finding a hamster behind a bin! We still have hammy if anyone with a lost hamster in crookes is reading this!!
Looks like we might have an addition to the family... Do cats get used to hamsters if they are in cages that they can't get into?!

Smitch (my fluffy cat) sits on my bed while I have Felix out! (She definitely sees Whiskas as prey but not Felix for some reason). It started off with Felix poking his feet and his nose out through the bars to Smitch and Smitch touching noses with him through the cage bars - then I got him out while Smitch was in the room and Felix launched himself out of my hands, directly at Smitch, who just sat there stunned!
Now he comes out of an evening when I get in bed and Smitch sits on the bed while he has a run around me!
I don't risk it with her when I'm not there though - I always put the cages out of reach - usually on top of the wardrobe (only space I have anyway!) but if they're on the floor I just keep the door shut.
As long as your cat can't reach the cage (because they can drag them over and open them!) when they're unsupervised - they should be fine! Just don't take any unnecessary risks - Smitch is a strange, strange cat and even though she's fine with Felix, I don't let Whiskas close to her!
Podium_K2 11-07-2009, 19:31 Update - hammy (Rufus) has been reunited with his rightful owner. I'm a bit gutted, I'd got rather attached to him and just set him up in a new cage someone had given us! He had escaped from a flat, down two flights of stairs, across the main road, up our street, and round the back of our row of houses! He went missing on sun and we found him on tue so he was a lucky little thing!
Thank you all for your help and advice
SpeedDemon 11-07-2009, 21:33 ah wow, he is one lucky hammy to have got all that way without getting squished!! Glad he found his owners, but for you, I'm sure there are a few people with baby hammies on here ;)
it amazes me when these small domesticated pets can survive outdoors! suppose they do that in the wild
get yourself a little hammy !!
