View Full Version : Help! Ive cut a rabbits nails too short JarvisCocker 07-07-2009, 10:39 and now its gushing blood? Any ideas how to stop it? I'm at work with limited resources around me? hels1977 07-07-2009, 10:45 Flour / corn flour, dunk paw in! Edit - I have no idea where you work, so perhaps you don't have flour :s Avalon 07-07-2009, 10:47 Vet perhaps? Why did you take your Rabbit to work? JarvisCocker 07-07-2009, 10:59 Shes not my rabbit. Someone at work found her by the side of the road, in the middle of no-where. This was her second time visit to the vets for a check up, thats why shes at work. I've got a rabbit myself and have done his claws loads of times never had this before. Shes off to the vets now so I'm sure they'll sort it out. Thanks Hels, I'd read cornflower or a bar of soap but with being at work I have neither. Avalon 07-07-2009, 11:09 lol fair enough! I had this strange vision of you taking your Rabbit to work to cut its nails! Hope its ok :-) JarvisCocker 07-07-2009, 11:13 I went into a panic cos it was gushing blood. Shes so adorable bless her. I'm hoping she's soon going to be an addition to our family!! Ssssh, don't tell the hubby!! hels1977 07-07-2009, 12:05 Yeah nails that are cut too short bleed and bleed and then some! Even in much smaller mammals! Shame about the lack of flour - hope she's okay! :) tarateets 07-07-2009, 12:54 rub a bar of soap over it, thats a top tip trust me! it works! JarvisCocker 07-07-2009, 13:05 Shes OK now, thanks everyone. Was a bit scary though, thought it would never stop. calasen 07-07-2009, 14:04 For any animal Trimmex can be good its a stypitic powder and has antibacterial properties and instantly stops bleeding, can be bought at the Rat Warehouse, we use this for our rats and used it on our dogs as well. I know its no good for you now but maybe and incase for anyone else? Glennis 07-07-2009, 14:27 I would have put od cold flannel / rag around it and held it firm. It should stop any bleeding in a few seconds / minutes. teeny 07-07-2009, 15:42 cornflour is a good option! I can't wait to meet her but don't introduce her to bo straight away there needs to be a quarenteen period. JarvisCocker 07-07-2009, 15:58 cornflour is a good option! I can't wait to meet her but don't introduce her to bo straight away there needs to be a quarenteen period. Does there? OH I've not really thought this through then have I? It's only come about today. Hmmmm, I could block off the top and bottom parts of the hutch so they can have a floor each? teeny 07-07-2009, 16:07 all sorted now then lol JarvisCocker 07-07-2009, 16:23 Yes, thanks Tina. Thanks very much hun, don't know what I'd do without you sometimes!! ferretfatcam 07-07-2009, 18:43 a bar of soap drawn accross as previous stated if you have cut the quick will stop the blood steve JarvisCocker 07-07-2009, 20:51 Thanks, I will make sure I have some to hand for next time. natjack 07-07-2009, 20:59 ouch! poor wabbit, bet it hurts.
