Only been to a casino once and it took me about five minutes to see the tricks they used so that the punters couldn't see how much they were giving the casino boss.
Didn't waste a coin in the place and will never go to another one.

Doesnt he just!, there are no tricks. The places are very strictly controlled

The casino hold an advantge on most casino games. This is known as the House Edge and it is the way that the casino makes money. This isnt a trick but just business!

Now can anyone answer my question please :)

So easy to see unless you are blind. The simple one is to give away free drinks. Keeps you in the place and you don't have to see how little money you have left to buy them with.
If you go to any table, the dealer will get all the lost chips from that hand/spin/whatever and dump them down a hole. It's true it's a security thing but it also keeps the amount of money the club makes on each hand out of the mind of the punters.

I've watch people lose hundreds of pounds in these places while the casino boss is thinking what colour his new 7 series BMW should be.

Bitter? no. I'm not daft enough to gamble.

In the UK it is illegal to offer free alcohol in a casino (especially at the tables).
It is also illegal to allow a drunk to gamble.

Most casinos offer free soft drinks and sandwiches to people sat at tables.

On roullette the chips dumped down a hole go into a sorting device to come out ready for re-use.

Clearly you no much less than you think you know !!!!

Hmm,
Of course the games at the casino are set up in a way that gives better odds to the house. That is how they make money. We all know that. It's up to the players to realise that and realise how much they are winning / losing.

Anyway... as for the poker there. That's a different story. I play poker for a living and went to Napoleons on Eccy Road. I found that the £5 and £10 buy in games had an extremely small starting stack in comparison to the time it takes the blinds to go up ( making it a bit of an all-in fest to get anywhere ), and the £50 re-buy is... well, for rich people.
I decided to start running my own poker nights because of how cack i thought Naps was.

There is a link. It's a £10+1 freezeout with 3,500 starting stacks. 6 seated and normally getting around 18-20 players. Beer was £1 a bottle of budweiser although that offer has just gone off,.. it has been replaced by £1 a bottle of something but I can't remember what exactly ( I only go in on Wednesday ). I think Tuberg or Carlsberg.

If you fancy that game, I'm pretty sure you'll have a good time. We have nicer tables than at napoleons and a really nice chipset, and copag cards. The club has a license to play.

Good luck if you fancy it.

pmsl. amazing post.

i went to las vegas earlier in the year - its a shame you didn't mention this before - i would have passed your sound advice onto the thousands of punters. i had an awful time on reflection, the free drinks at the table while i enjoyed a relaxing game of blackjack or craps were not for me.

and you are right, i would prefer for all of the chips in the whole casino to be there for me to see - just imagine, literally millions of chips stacked up

i made the stupid mistake of gambling and was saddened to come out with a decent profit. doh.

I went once when I turned 18, had £100 in my pocket I was prepared to lose, decided to gamble with £20 first and play from one pocket to another. Gambling money in one and winnings in another.

Anyhow I was there for about 10 minutes.

I turned my £20 in £90 and left. The other £80 never leaving my pocket. £70 up. How I wished I'd gambled with the full hundred and left with 450.

I did buy 3 bottles of beer after winning for me and two friends which was nearly a tenner. Very expensive and not worth it, but being my 18th...

I've never been back.

If that is the case it sort of makes my piont for me.

I'm aware of these things but it took me all of a moment to work out how much the punters were losing. That seemed to be a little more than the punters could see.
The point about the fee refreshment stands. It keeps the idiots at the tables so they can give more cash to the casino.
Anyone that can't see that has to be stupid.

I went into the one on Eccy Road for my mates bday back in March.

Staff on the front counter were a little unfriendly for my liking, which I wasn't expecting as I thought seeing as I was there to give them my hard earned money I thought they'd friendly at least.

Apart from that I really enjoyed the experience. Didn't do a great deal of gambling as I'm not overly keen on it (Worked in a bookies for a year and I still wasn't bitten by the gambling bug) but I came out all square and enjoyed myself during my time there.

so anyone who enters a casino is automatically an idiot? :loopy:

people gamble the money they can afford to lose. i LOVE playing craps - i'd rather spend £50 on playing craps than a new shirt or whatever. people like to do different things with their money - it doesnt make them an idiot. i played blackjack for 2 hours in vegas non-stop, had a great craic with the dealers and the pit boss, drank for free the whole time and even left with a small profit. am an idiot? even i'd have made a loss it wouldnt have bothered me as i was enjoying myself.

Not everyone is an idiot but a large number are.
A few may well use a casino from time to time, lose a little bit of cash but enjoy themselves. it's not so far removed from having a good meal. You still spend the cash but have a good time.
A few more will have their heads screwed on and know what they are doing. A pro gambler can make a fortune.
I do know many that go to the casino the moment they get paid and blow the lot. I saw so many that clearly were in the same position sling their cash and go home with sod all.
A maintain that the majority that use these places are idiots.

you would be completely wrong then.

especially with your comments with regards to pro gamblers - pro gamblers wouldn't be using napoleons casino. or casinos in general.

actually i've forgot, I don't have a degree in gambling and leisure management so please ignore all of my previous comments with regards to casinos.

You misguided superiority complex comes shining through as per usual!

Has it occurred to you that the people in there might be aware that the free drinks are to make then stay longer? It also makes their stay more enjoyable...

Oh, for everyone to be as observant and intellectually brilliant as you..

i have been to napoleons on eccy rd and hillsborough, if your looking for a good night thats not just about the tables then go to hillsborough - to me its a better atmosphere in the bar etc as its on the same floor as the tables. on eccy road the bar is upstairs so if your not a gambler like me then you just have to sit and watch your friends loose!

as for people who go in being idiots i would disagree to a point. some can go in spend all night, have a drink and gamble a 10ner but to some it is an addiction, that is how the house wins. if you win in there you put money back to win more, but you usually loose and when you loose you put more in to make it back, loose again.
