Im wanting to put freeview in my caravan or sky. Ive read about some people saying, take your own viewing cards etc...
Sky - How does this work? Taking own card etc and what would i need to set up?
Also im sure ive a old sky box (normal before upgraded to plus) in the loft, will this accept freeview channels and if so do i need a dish?
Thanks

For freeview you just need a box and aerial. Satellite is better for camping though as (generally in the UK) one type of dish works everywhere. The same isn't true of freeview
Easiest way is to take your usual card and box. If you took a different box, you'd have to phone sky to get it paired up (and then re-paired with the other box when you get home)
You'll need a dish and LNB, very cheap off ebay but make sure it's a universal LNB, most from the last 10 years will be, plus a pole to either drive into the ground or mount vertically on a paving slab, then a legnth of coax cable to reach the TV, or you could get a special caravan kit with a sucker mounted dish.
The size of the dish will depend on where you're going. A standard 'sky' 43cm dish will do for most of the uk, go further and you'll need something bigger.

It will accept free channels from satellite. Yes you will need a dish,k it won't work with an aerial
Thanks, sounds too hard for me, think ill stick to a freeview box.

Then i'd buy a decent high-gain wideband aerial for t'caravan. You can get 'em in B&Q :)

its not really hard, its just annoting and fidly. I had a mate who moved house and tried to re-install sky himself, the only problem was half of his channels were fuzzy as the dish wasnt alligned properly. in the end he had to call sky to do it.
digital coverage isnt too bad around the country now, yorkshire infact has some of the worst signals and coverage. A little portable antenna for a fiver should suffice.
