I have just bought a new laptop and the 'AT' does not seem to be working when typing an email address...as keith"hotmail. Hope this makes sense.

Anyone help on this please?

I think the keyboard layout is set to american, try changing it to UK, or pressing shift and 2.

Try the " key, mine used to be on the wrong key too.

if your running XP do this

Control Panel -> Regional & Language Options.

Regional Options Tab
Change everything to UK.

Languages Tab
Click details button.
Set default input language to English (UK)
Under installed services add uk layout and set as default.

Advanced Tab
Set to English (UK)

OK the lot.

Reboot.

as he says above and just for good measures delete the us keyboard layout, no activating it by mistake then

Hi

Yes pressing shift and two has done it, thanks a lot.

Perhaps you could advise on another problem. Word keeps asking for the product key I don't seem to have one.

Thanks again

Its probably a trial version of word installed on the laptop, and the trial license has expired, either shell out for a license, or alternatively, abandon ms office, and switch to open office... its free, much less of a resource hog, and I manage to interchange between it and ms office at work without problems.

Yes you are right. I called into Comet (the place I bought it from) and it appears that Word is no longer fitted but you have to buy yourself at a cost of about £80. This is a complete rip off. The so called 60 day free trial is not 60 days either. You just get 25 uses of Word before it expires.

If anyone is considering buying a new computer remember if you want Word it will cost an extra £80.

Unless you buy a computer with Word...

Many PC sellers put useful trial versions of software on new computers simply so you get used to them and have to buy it off them at another date.

You can buy a copy of Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint & OneNote) from eBuyer here (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/120771) for just £66, installable on 3 PCs at once. Ignore Comet's prices and buy online.

Or you could get all the above free with Open Office. It has everything the average home user could possibly want. Oh and it's free.

By the way, did I mention it's free?

Ugh, I ended up abandoning OpenOffice in favour of Google Docs. I found OO to favour having masses of options I really didn't need at the expense of usability. Google docs might not be the securest appication, but it's nice and easy to use. And you don't have to worry about carrying your documents with you.
