Hi!

I am a very overweight female aged 31, weigh 26st 5lbs and would like to start aan overweight self-help group in Sheffield city centre (ideally).

It will involve all kinds of things that will help and encourage overweight men/women to lose weight, get fit and make new friends.

I hope to join slimming world at the Cathedral on Fridays at 12pm, so if anyone else would like to join with me that would be great.

I recently found out that it may be possible for you to get slimming world classes free of charge through your GP as it is much cheaper for the GP to buy a 12 week block of classes in one go, which only cost 1/3 of the price of anti-obesity drugs.

I think that it may be able to get weight watchers clases also, but I have not looked into that yet.

Slimming world classes may not be available nationwide yet as it may only be available to people living in the north of uk, but its worth giving it a try.

I thought that it would be good for overweight people to come together and from freindships to help support each other and meet up for coffee, shopping, healthy meals, bowling, cineama, etc, but most importantly go to the gym, swimming (aquafit, ladies only, mixed), slimming club, exercise/salsa/line dancing classes, gentle walks, etc.

I hope to launch the group end of July ideally.

I can meet up with inderviduals for a coffee before then if anyone would like to?

Any suggestions, comments, etc welcome.

If your interested in joining the group please get in touch by sending me your name and phone number (optional) to my email address anew.dawn@live.co.uk

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Please tell your friends, family & collegues who you think may also be interested in joining the group.

Kind regards

Lisa xx

The safe, easy, drug-free way to lose weight is to cut down on salt and salty food.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty certain that doctors can also 'prescribe' gym sessions for certain conditions (my mum lives in Cambridge and was sent to the gym by her doc foc or cheaply)

I've always been very cynical of 'slimming' groups such as weight watchers, which place too much focus on weight instead of health for my liking. I think a self help group is a fantastic idea, and yes, if the idea is to go to the cinema etc, making new friends instead of sitting in with only the fridge for company, fantastic!

Just make sure that the bag of revels, box of popcorn and bucket of fizzy drink aren't on the menu though!

Abuse is poor argument. I myself favour evidence rather than abuse.

Cutting down on salt and salty food is the safest, surest way to lose excess weight. Read my article http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/obesity_and_the_salt_connection.html Or have a look at http://rayhayden.us/lowsodium.html
