Hi
The Shepley Spitfire is no longer open, another one bits the dust as they say, they have shut up and have their blinds down and have been closed for a few days, looks like they've gone.

I'd always wanted to go there, I've read about poor Douglas and his siblings.

Douglas Shepley was a Battle of Britain Spitfire pilot from Holmesfield. He was shot down and killed on 12 August 1940. He had only been married for 6 weeks and his brother and sister had already been killed whilst serving in the war. His mother and widow started a fund to buy a new Spitfire with £100 of their own money.

Yeah, £100 was a lot of money back then. Hopefully no one told them that a new Spitfire would cost about £12,000!

Sadly I've just had it confirmed that they have indeed closed. The tenants left on Friday. I really thought that they would make a go of it.

How do you know this ?
I know the tenant and have heard nothing from him.....
Hopefully its not true as I have 2 bookings for later this month.

Despite the rumours on here and in Totley, I can confirm that the pub is closed temp, but the tenants have NOT left the site. If anyone requires any further information please PM me as I am not prepared to put details on an open forum.
