Where roughly is it ? And not really a great time to open is it, affinity/sanctuary/dempseys/lions lair/xes all now gay as such, is there space for a 'gay club'? When looking around the gay scene it probably attracts less than 300 people in total on a weekend night, and less than 50 in the week! But thereare those of us looking for something a bit different, so bring it on. Carborundum 05-07-2009, 17:32 SO does that mean if the acts are good enough then they will have drag acts? Furblefox 09-07-2009, 14:13 All credit to ya, opening a business, I hope it's successful, but I really don't see the need for 'gay' bars or 'straight' bars. It's just somewhere to drink, I can't honestly see why people feel the need to go to a certain kind of bar, unless it's themed! Who cares, honestly what people's sexuality is, or who you're drinking with if the atmosphere is good and people have a fun time! I have a lot of respect for Dempseys - whatever the naysayers say!). Sheffield really needs a bear establishment, somewhere older guys/hairy guys/'normal' guys can go/chat/drink/relax. There's certainly the market for it in Sheffied because all of us bugger off to Mancheste/Birmingham at every available opportunity, so something closer to home would be most welcome. Sharp87 10-07-2009, 22:20 why do you need a dedicated bar for this? just converge on somewhere, get it bigged up and get it a reputation if you want. wtf is bears anyway?! pinkace 11-07-2009, 00:06 Is this new bar going to be in the old Mulberry !!!!! green 11-07-2009, 01:41 why do you need a dedicated bar for this? just converge on somewhere, get it bigged up and get it a reputation if you want. wtf is bears anyway?! not sure if its the same thing......but i was taken by a gay guy to a bears bar in soho last year. We have taken a new premises on Arundel Gate in the centre The new venue can offer much more than the current one, It is on 2 floors so we can offer a classy bar upstaires open 7 days a week and downstaires will be a new nightclub open Thursday through to Sunday. We are starting from scratch with this venue which means we can build it how we want. We have been granted a 6 oclock license for the venue which gives us a lot more flexibility. There will be a dance floor on both levels offering a choice in music. Building work has already started and we aim to open in about 6 weeks time (give or take a few days) Affinity in Campo lane will soon be shutting in the next few weeks as we transfer some of the fixtures and fittings to the new venue. The venue is also free of brewery tie which means the drink prices will be good with lots of promotions. We hope to see you all there and will keep you informed of the progress. The circle bar shut because after the first few months it only tended to make money when the academy had a gig on as a lot of people found it too far from the main pubs (ie on west street) so didnt bother to go to it. I know this as I work nearby to it and know someone who worked behind the bar there. Tyranna 13-07-2009, 21:02 The old circle bar premises are opposite where the mulberry tavern is. Just hope you have something unique to pull in the trade like lions lair does they seem to have grasped the whole scene and taken it on differently and it works. I hope you dont try and mirror what other have and fetch the scene crashing down due to there being to much choice of the same thing and not enough people to support them all! Today's the day......................... they're all down the woods andii 03-10-2009, 20:24 Lions looks like it is here until at least 2011 kylebarnes20 03-10-2009, 21:41 nfhjgcdfhgfgyh aeinstein199 03-10-2009, 21:58 Lions looks like it is here until at least 2011 But that is now only best part of a year.....what then? Seems Sheffield never seems to catch up, they would all rather go to Corp or Leadmill which is full of LGBT students nowadays and then to Dempseys for their last hr on the way home. The midweek scene in Sheffield is dead, the only place that does anything is Dempseys and its stalwart customers keep it going. PS Is the Sanctuary rumor or truth does anyone know? Miles Better 04-10-2009, 16:49 Affinity WILL be reopening in the near future, work in the new venue is now under way, the upstairs bar is almost complete, I called in to See Affinitytony, and things are slowly taking shape! It's gonna be a cracking venue! Tyranna 04-10-2009, 21:00 Seems like they are closing faster than they are opening! Rumour is Sanctuary is closing again in the near future, affinity we have no news on, lions is getting knocked down at some point, we will be back to only Dempseys and xes soon! Suppose it will be Dempseys or a train to Manchester..... ...I've heard rumors that Adam of 'FAB' fame is looking at a venue not far from the Lions Lair as a possible new club, so don't give up hope of anything happening yet... BTW if what Miles Ahead says is true, in spite of the still shabby outside to the new Affinity premises, Best of Luck to Tony in getting the club relaunched! sTaGeWaLkEr 21-10-2009, 14:56 Affinity WILL be reopening in the near future, work in the new venue is now under way, the upstairs bar is almost complete, I called in to See Affinitytony, and things are slowly taking shape! It's gonna be a cracking venue! Indeed it will. ;) Maybe now all the knockers will finally shut up. Some folk are only happy when they're moaning or bitching about someone else's (perceived on this occasion) downfall. A word of advice for the future: get your facts completely straight before you sound off, otherwise you risk losing face. :) sTaGeWaLkEr 21-10-2009, 15:08 if it opens again I will eat my jeep tyres...alll 4 of them served in chili sauce on a bed of rice... Goldenfleece, can we take photo's? Maybe there's a merchandising deal to be had? :) jamesogt 21-10-2009, 17:27 A word of advice for the future: get your facts completely straight before you sound off, otherwise you risk losing face. :) How do you lose face on what for most people is an anonymous forum! Hi, Just to let everyone know Affinity is relocating and expanding. Best Wishes Affinity :) 11/7/2009 was this original post we are now 21/9/2009. Hi Chris 101, The Mulberry is actually bigger, its 5000 square feet in total which is alot bigger, each floor is about the size affinity is now and there are 2 floors. cheers Tony 21/7/2009 And this was the last 'update' on the thread that affinity started, it isn't really being knocked whether it opens or not after 4 months with no news people are bound to ask. sTaGeWaLkEr 21-10-2009, 17:42 How do you lose face on what for most people is an anonymous forum! It's an idiom. The fact that the comment was made on an internet forum is irrelevant. People can still 'lose face' on an internet forum. If someone makes an assertion that black is white, and evidence is provided to the contrary, then it would be fair to assume that the person making said assertion would have lost face. Regarding Affinity being 'knocked' - I've seen quite a number of people having digs on various threads. I didn't particularly aim my comment at this one. It's just nice to be able to quash the rumours, once and for all. What matters is that Affinity is opening, it's opening in the heart of Sheffield, it's going to be bigger and better than ever, and it will give people yet more choice over where to go. :) Tyranna 24-10-2009, 16:32 Good News! I passed the venue last week, and WORK IS WELL UNDER WAY! Hoardings have been put up over the front entrance, so a fair amount of remodelling is likely to take place, and from round the back, you can see that they are doing a lot of work on the upper floor; drilling, new floor, lots of builders going in and out. From what I've heard, it will be opening sometime in December, but we'll have to wait for any further details of the dates from Tony.... |
