Just curious at the moment,

But how much do you think a 3 bed mid terrace house, Double Glazing Central Heating and a newish bathroom would be under the council right to buy.

House located in foxhil.

Is it a good idea to buy council house.

Anything i should watch out for?

Would be cash purchase not mortgage.

Thanks.

Impossible to give a price, discount will depend on length of tenancy etc.

Why not discuss with the experts? Once the tenant(s) completes the application form, they'll arrange a valuation - and then you can decide whether to go ahead.

Very good advice at the bottom but I am not sure that discounts are reliant on length of tenancy anymore, I know you have to have been in the property for a certain amount of time but the discount is then the same if you have been there ten or twenty years or whatever.

Thats not correct unless it changed in the last year. The information on Sheffield council website about Right to Buy states the following:

'You get a discount of 30% then an extra 1% for every year you have been a secure tenant. This is up to a maximum of 60%, but this cannot be anymore than £24,000. This is the maximum amount of discount we are allowed to give in Sheffield. '

The discount for a flat or maisonette is slightly more, but increases up to the same maximum depending on length of tenancy.
