You are kidding, right? ITV's football coverage, and picture quality, is shocking. They make Channel 5's coverage look good! The Championship on ITV was the worst football programme since...The Premiership on ITV. I still have nightmares about being locked in the Tactics Truck being bored to death by Andy Townsend.

I see Newcastle have got 2 out of the 4 games announced so far, what a surprise...

The company with the worst track record for quality, poorly-timed ad breaks, pundits, and overall standard of football coverage?

Quality,I'd forgotten about that.Wasn't it ITV who had pundits stood near the corner flag with a little table at half time in European matches?:hihi:

Glad to see this but, why only ten games a season, thats crap, and why oh why do the BBC fall for the big clubs, not only picking Newcastle twice in a row at the start of the season, but even when they cover the FA Cup after the 3rd round stage they always have a top four Prme club. on. WHY :loopy:

They are not a commercial station so there is no revenue from showing these games, they will cost the same as showing blackpool v coventry, even if we dont want to see this, thier money is our money asn should be spread around the clubs that need it, Newcastle and the like have earnt where they are by bad management and ill thoughtout managerial appointments, let them now eat cake like the rest of us.

Also ITV should run the championship programme at the same time as the beeb show MOTD and not sunday mornings, their are more gunine fans that would watch the Championship highlights then would be bothered with 45 min highlights of man u again, people want to watch there teams highlights.

The fact that they ever put Matthew Lorenzo on air should have confined the entire network to bottom rung of Hell.

Got to agree there Benny. Motty was so derided for years for being an anorak, but basically he's being a professional fan.

He HAD to know about some dreadful Swindon reserve match in 1997, because "....that's when Frank Talia made his first appearance against Manchester United. Strangely, Manchester United won that 5-0, as they appear to be doing here against Telford Reserves, who contain Frank Talia's cousin twice removed in the net tonight, ironically ...."

Nobody would ever complain about Benaud coming out with a similarly obscure statistic. Motty has done well on the radio in his limited spots as well. I like Motty.

I can't think of any of the presenters/pundits or commentators on ITV that are actually likeable or even just interesting to listen to - the worst in my view are these:

Matt Smith - his passion for the game ends at the fact that he receives a salary for presenting ITV football programmes. He's too false and creepy and I doubt he actually follows football in his spare time - he's just a straightforward presenter doing his job but not that well.

Steve Ryder - Similar to above except take out false and creepy and replace with boring and disinterested.

Andy Townsend - Never really that impressed with his analysis and don't think his insight is that great. He also tries to conceal his arrogance slightly which makes him a bit creepy/false like old Smithy. He lacks bottle - I remember when he backed down to Jens Lehmann, who was telling him that Ronaldo's 40 yard free kick against Arsenal in the CL WASN'T Almunia's fault. Ha Ha Ha, there was no argument to be had, he should have told the German weirdo where to go.

Peter Drury - Always trying to make everything look bigger than it is but never convincing when he tries to do it, he just sounds false like the rest of them on this channel. His attempts to reproduce a catchphrase similar to the 'they think it's all over...' one are embarrassing too. When Crouch scored a goal in the last World Cup for England his comment was 'One small leap for Crouch, one giant step for England'............no, just no!! I can't stand listening to this guy.

There is no real banter or chemistry between the ITV pundits either as you get the feeling that the people on the BBC have a good crack together when the cameras aren't rolling.

I see Newcastle have got 2 out of the 4 games announced so far, what a surprise...

I heard that any 1 team can only be shown twice so this would be the last we see of Newcastle on the BBC.

Could we be that lucky

obviously Newcastle are their trump card and the top attraction in the championship for the TV companies,so they will show them as much as possible
