View Full Version : Stephen Fry on Top Gear
rubydazzler 28-06-2009, 20:24 Did anyone else think Stephen Fry looked dreadful? He's apparently lost 6 stone recently. He looked a wreck.
I don't often watch this prog but I was hysterical with laughter almost throughout ... they are really funny. :D
Smack Jack 28-06-2009, 20:40 What time was it on? Its usually 8 I know, but I missed it and for some reason it hasnt appeared on Catch Up TV.
Yes, we were commenting on quite how old he suddenly looks. If that's what losing weight does for you, I think I'll stay fat thanks.
chinaski 28-06-2009, 20:54 Women are so borish the way they judge men on their appearance.
Is it really that important to you?
Maybe he's just . . . wait for it . . .
getting old.
Grow up ladies.
actually, he looked like he'd been on the Atkins diet - too dried out and drawn :(
rubydazzler 28-06-2009, 21:05 Women are so borish the way they judge men on their appearance.Grow up ladies.Do you mean boorish, or boring?
It's only what we've learnt from men ... judging people on their appearance :hihi:
Anyway, if you compare what he looks like on the prog that's just finished, about legal stuff, and then what he looked like on Top Gear earlier, you'd agree, I bet.

I'm just glad we can still teach you something. ;)

So which was it?
websters gue 28-06-2009, 21:32 I don't watch Top Gear but I've always liked Stephen Fry so I had a gawp on the BBC iplayer,he has lost a fair bit of weight but he's still as good as ever when it comes to a bit of banter.I think he looks well, just needs a decent haircut.Just forward to 30 minutes for Mr Fry.

purple_frog 28-06-2009, 22:29 I think it might just have been the hair...? To be fair, he was waaaaay overweight before, so no harm in shedding a few stones - so long as it was healthily.
But Top Gear is a shameful favourite of mine - love to hate, hate to love!

Could have been worse, they could have had a fat bird on.

While I agree that he didn't look quite as interesting as usual, but it should be remembered that he is middle aged now. He's nearly 52 for the love of God(TM).
He'd still be very near the top of the list of 'people with whom would HH love to a pint'. Is there anyone more interesting and clever on the planet than the esteemed Fry?

Is there anyone more interesting and clever on the planet than the esteemed Fry?He's very witty and erudite, or his script writers are, that's a given ;) It's nothing to do with his age, and everything to do with the fact that he's gone scrawny and ill looking, due to a crash diet ... 6 stones in a matter of a few months!!
He looks great on the series he's in ... he plays a solicitor, and it was on just after Top Gear so the contrast was marked.

He looks disturbingly like Des O'Conner in the photo accompanying this (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1194024/STEPHEN-FRY-How-I-lost-stones-just-months.html) article.
His face does look a little baggy and gaunt post-weight loss - par for the course now he's getting on a bit and losing that youthful springy firmness - but lop the head off that top photo and his bod looks so much better than the corpulent, double-chinned, pot-bellied porkiness of a few years ago, due no doubt to the gym sessions and lots of walking.
He seems revitalised; he's energetic and apparently much happier now he's ditched the flab and regained his fitness.
He could do with a decent haircut though.

ETA: OMG! I'm mortified, I'm 5'4" and at the moment I weigh the same as he does now! Damn these feeders! :D
cressida 29-06-2009, 18:47 I think he looks very sexy, then what do I know I've always found the Duke of Edinburgh very attractive

I hope so.
