Can anyone or any of your relatives living on the Manor give me any information about an aircraft which crashed down onto the Manor fields into the side of the hill, on the highest part of the field in 1937 or thereabouts. I'd be very grteful for any help.

I can recall a aircraft coming down during either 1943 or 44.
It came down in the field next to the Manor fields where the farmer grew corn or barley. Just below this across a rough road or track, was a anti-aircraft gun site. The rough road run from Beaumont road (?) to Manor Lane.
I can remember my elder brother telling me that the aircraft was carrying Bannarnes. After it had left I search that field but never found one. What I did find out though was, 'How hard the hand of the farmer felt when it hit my backside for treading his corn down!!'
Hello Maureen. Go on Sheffield History homepage and then, Search This Forum and type Aircrashes. You will then be able send a private message to the chap who uses Aircrashes as a screen name. He has written two, maybe three books on plane crashes in this area and the Peak District. I recently read the book that covers Sheffield, but there was no mention of a crash on the Manor, the nearest crash to there being at Frechville. If it's one he doesn't know about, I'm sure he would interested in talking to you.

Hi Albert and Cat
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, yes I had heard about an aircraft coming down on the Manor fields. the info was that it was possibly 1937 and a tri or bi plane (not sure what one would look like).
Also there was a posting on here a while ago about the aireoplane landing with the bananas at Manor Park Centre
Thanks Cat for the info I will have a look now
Best wishes

My memory is of the small plane either landing or coming down in 1943/4 in the corn field below what we called 'The the little wood'. It couldn't have been smaller because it only had Two Trees in it. (I think one of those was dead). Someone had a Pigeon Hut just off the path that ran at the top of Manor field from Walthof Road to eventually the steel bridge over the railway at Darnall. The Greyhound race track was by its side.
