I only briefly passed through the centre of Manchester today, but it seemed to be nice here.

Armed services have tents and some military vehicles and artillery things set up in Piccadilly Gardens, playing games with the children and trying to recruit and so on.

Police brass band playing, sun shining. All good.

Armed Forces Day, is in support of OUR military, wherever they are, whatever they are doing. The military is there for a reason, that reason being, not to let the enemy come to OUR country. But some people on this forum want the enemy within the borders of this country, and the PATRIOTS of this country to accept them....Some sad people on this forum...

Banning protesting would be the death knell for free speech and democracy... the best thing about being able to speak freely is that your also free to look like a complete idiot when you say the wrong thing and not only that someone else is also free to bloody well tell you that your an idiot too! Just look what happened at the Luton protests when those Islamic protesters called the returning troops 'butchers' and 'terrorists'. The public quite rightfully turned on them and told them to F off!

Nope, just hooliganism and yobbish behaviour. Most people would be appalled by that clip if the flag being waved was the crest of a football club but the behaviour and chants were the same....

I don't agree with this protest, but I'd more strongly not agree with the suggestion that protests should be banned.

If it wasn't stupidly ironic, I'd suggest banning the idea that a solution to anything was banning it.

Totally agree Cyclone but, not to protest about the people that are in our military, but to protest to the government.

Are you too young to remember what the IRA did?

If murdering scum like McGuiness and Adams can lay down their arms then there's some hope. When idiots like this continue what should be a dead fight then I can't help wishing for a return of 2 para.

I agree with you there - we need to be able to protest freely, but we are also capable of sorting out the numpties in our midst... I do wonder why some people migrated to the UK if they don't like it? If I moved abroad and found that the attitudes and way of life wasn't for me, I'd probably move on before I would expect those already there to change for me?

You are getting mistaken with OUR military personel, and our government which, puts OUR military personel into positions of conflict. OUR military goes to, and does what the government says, that is their agreement in their contract of employment. And I, and most of the people in this country are proud of them...:thumbsup::thumbsup:

OK. Read my points. Ask a grown up what the bigger words mean. Come back to me when you understand the argument.

Why did Telewest pipe bbroadband into the illiterate areas of Sheffield? I thought they only needed Sky sports

you can only ever please some people some of the time, their will always be some form of political coreectness or some disagreeing from someone about what our forces are doing abroad. when all is said and done these men and women have devoted themselves to queen and country, they do not decide where they will be stationed nor whom they will fight, i think they very much deserve a day for recognition and for those lives lost in service in the name of our country.

that was a war fought many years ago, and many many more lives were lost, the fight that is going on now is for oppression and dictatorship to be wiped out ( oh and before im jumped on) for the oil. the 11th hour of the 11th day is for primarily a day for the rememberence of those that lost there life, armed forces day is for those that fought and are luckily enough to still be alive!

Looks like these "left wing lefties" are brighter than you. Mr.Benn. At least they have figured this much out:

"However, today's armed services are plainly not being used to defend this country at all, but to illegally invade and occupy distant countries in the interests of American global strategy and to grab oil and gas supplies for Big Business."

What about those namby pamby do gooders doth protest too much about the noise of a motorbike and purposefully travel to find them
Ringing the police all too often and wasting valuable police time on what was once a common hobby, alienating our youth and driving them to partake in other activties like taking drugs where they are less likely to face hassle from the police.

This forum came up while I was searching for news on the protests. You all seem to have pretty much the same opinion, yet are arguing with each other. Odd.
I'm glad people realise that Armed Forces Day isn't glorifying the war but supporting the military for the work it does everywhere, not just in Afghanistan and Iraq.
I probably wouldn't have posted this pointless statement but I used to live near Sheffield so felt nostalgic.
