If you ring DVLA and tell them they can give you the Ref number you need to tax it on line. My father did this just a few weeks ago.

my father had only just bought his car and was waiting for log book to be changed they did change of ownership over phone so the tax disk came to him.

Hey hun, my mate had same problem a few weeks ago. She had bought a car from manchester that had 2 weeks tax left. When it came time to renew it she still hadnt received log book etc. She rang place she bought it from and they said they could do it if she drove back to manchester. Instead she spoke to dvla who told her to come into their office in sheffield centre and they sorted it all out for her. I suggest you ring dvla x

I told you this on the other thread:

Just buy one day's insurance and get your car taxed at the post office. I used them to MOT and tax my car earlier this week.
