I don't think clowns are scary at all, mind you I don't think they're funny either

Now what is scary is the thing from the 17th Dimension that's just scuttled past me........:help:

Clowns are, quite possibly, the scariest things in the universe.

I can vote two ways here, clowns don't bother me at all, but my ex has a real fear of them, he just couldn't watch IT at all and I thought Tim Curry was brilliant in it.
so thats a yes and a no vote

I don't like clowns much. However they are not as scary as the people dressed up as furry animals thing:
that is totally petrifying!

I was once confronted by a six foot Pudsey Bear in Lancaster. I screamed and grabbed on to my friend's arm so tight, I left bruises.

I don't visit Lancaster much these days...

(I don't often get invited).

That clown in "IT" was so scarey, even the fact that it was Tim Curry didn't make it any less evil.

I went to the circus the other day and didn't enjoy one bit of it because i was sat in a cold sweat waiting for the clowns to come and get me :suspect:!!!

They are truley terrifying but i can see why some think it's a daft fear because for me it is completely unexplainable (just like my fear of masks or anything that makes you not look like yourself)?!?

To be honest... they don't really scare me, unless i saw one down a back alley at 4am. But then i think i would be more scared of why i was down this back alley in the first place.

I was taken to a circus at 5yrs old, sat on the front row, a horse reared up & nearly slammed it's front hooves down on my fingers.
The clowns weren't too bad, until water started squirting form the top of their heads, I was frightened to death.
I can't stand clowns & circuses now.
Yyyuks!!!

Yes they are, I wouldn't say I'm terrified of them but I prefer not to have to look at them. They just aren't nice! Anyone that has a clown as an avatar is just being cruel, as this post shows at least 43 forrumers don't like clowns. (hint hint Jabber!)

But he has found the thread anyway! and as I suspected, the horrible clown has returned

I hates them - it's all down to that robotic Clown in a glass box at Blackpool pleasure beach - my parents / grandparents used to take me to see him when I was little. All it did was laugh and laugh. I wanted to take it apart bit by bit and then laugh at it when it couldn't laugh anymore.

Mime artists are just as bad.

Read and seen. In fact, I ordered the dvd yesterday. Seen Killer Klowns from Outer Space too. But that's an evil clown. You could have an evil hamster (in fact I did have an evil hamster), but not as many people are scared of them.

There is a scene in the Buffy TV series when Xander, who is terrified of clowns, is being chased by one. Just as he is about to be caught he says " Wait a minute, it's just a clown", turns round and punches it in the face.

But what if it had turned out that the clown had super-human strength and razors for teeth? ::shudder:: .

I've always hated them. Then along came John Wayne Gacy, an American serial killer who performed as a clown when he wasn't luring young men to their deaths. That really sealed the deal for me. Totally creepy.

They can be scary especially if they aren't in the circus ring where they are expected to be.Horror films do a good job at making them scary.

I know what you mean, its suspicious enough that he just kept laughing all the time for no apparent reason the fact that its a clown just makes it worse. He was obviously planning to break out of his box and murder me the minute my parents turned their backs.

I blame the film 'Funny Man' for people being scared of Clowns, they should have never of filmed some it in Rotherham! Its enough to make anyone unnecessarily scared of Clowns!!
