Do Sheffield City Council collect? If not, does anyone know how I should dispose of it?

This is off Sheffield City Councils website

Q. How do I dispose of my fridge/freezer.

A. Fridges and freezers have to be treated in accordance with European Directives to remove the CfCs contained within both the coolant and the foam insulation. You can have your fridge/freezer collected and disposed of free of charge by ringing the Sheffield Council call-centre on 273 4567 and then pressing 1 to get through to the Onyx call-centre. Onyx will then arrange with you when the unit can be collected and they will ensure that it is disposed of correctly. Alternatively you can take them to one of the Household Waste Recycling Centres

Doesn't the council do a collection service from canals or lay-bys ... that’s where I tend to see them :D

On a serious note, the council will collect them (I think). Give them a call and they will tell you how to get it collected.

When we did this they were very efficient.

All we needed to do was manhandle the fridge on to the front path and that was that.

I must interject

If you have any item of electrical equipment, not withstanding any gases etc. you must have a separate collection

This does, as you are aware or not, mean batteries, cd roms.
etc.

Please do not put batteries, or any other item that is not suiutable for landfill in your wheelie bin.

All pfts with tops off please

Paper and cardboard means paper and cardboard, not juice cartons etc.

please do Sheffield council a favour and adhere to what they say.

It will help us all and keep costs down

Exactly, Bruce.

The collection we had came in the afternoon, I think, and was a one off for us to pick up the venerable The Towers Fridge.

Was sad to see it go, actually. Probably 20 years and nary a fault, then....phut. Took three days to determine that it HAD failed, it kept stuff so cold!!

Isn't that what it says in my post?

Will do, matey. I'll put the fridge next to a knackered oven that's already out there awaiting collection  - it's like Steptoe's in front of the house. All we're missing is a doctor's skeleton and Hercules the horse.

Preferential treatment in Walkley? The oven has been out there for a fortnight.

I had the same experience as fredsredhat, I called the council on Friday and my fridge was collected from outside the back door Monday morning, brilliant service.
