Just finished a book titled "Our Hidden Lives" that should be of interest to many on this board.
The book looks at life in Britain in the immediate post war era, through the actual diaries of five ordinary people. The connection with this board being that two of the individuals concerrned were living in Sheffield.
George, a grumpy middle aged accountant and Edie a Labour loving housewife give an entertaining but insightful view of life in the city during this period of real hardship, lots of references to places now gone or radically different to their day. I found it fascinating, enough to make this recommendation.
Hope othes enjoy it as much as I have.
